Error description

  • When issuing F <server>,DUMP,INCLUDE=THREAD for a z/OS Liberty
server, a javacore is created and added to the dump zip. The
javacore is created with the default system encoding, and
won't be converted when moved to a system with a different
encoding, since it is inside the dump zip. This makes the
javacore file unreadable if viewed on any non-z/OS system.

    ****************************************************************
    When issuing F <server>,DUMP,INCLUDE=THREAD for a Liberty
profile server on z/OS, a javacore file is created and
included in the dump archive. The javacore file is created
with the default system encoding, and will not be
automatically converted when transferred to a system with a
different encoding. This makes the javacore file unreadable on
any non-z/OS systems unless it is manually converted.

Problem conclusion

  • Dump processing has been changed to automatically convert
javacore files generated through use of the DUMP modify
command to be converted to ASCII encoding before being
    packaged in the dump archive.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.5.3. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page
