Problem conclusion
The JAXB Unmarshaller does some code generation at runtime to help improve performance. The issue appeared to be in the code generator and how it handles XmlJavaTypeAdapter annotations. Through the handling of these type adapters, there was the possibility of an improper cast from one type to another. This is where the root cause of the exception was. The issue was fixed by ensuring that when dealing with an XMLJavaTypeAdapter, the code generator is aware that processing has already occurred via the type adapter, and therefore there is no need for any unnecessary processing which may conflict with the work performed by the type adapter. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs 7.0.0.33, 8.0.0.9, and 8.5.5.3.
