PI09736: FFDC ENTRIES WRITTEN TO APPLICATION LOG WHEN USING JAVA.UTIL.LOGGING.LOGGER.LOG() METHOD

Error description

If an application is utilizing
java.util.logging.Logger.log(record) to write entries to an
application log, users may see FFDC incident entries inserted
into this log as well.

*                      java.util.logging.Logger                *
*                      in WebSphere Application Server.        *

FFDC entry are first put in to WSLogger async queue in the
Application Logger which get cleared to the associated log
handler and then to the target output stream  by the next sync
logging event and added to this Application Server TR logger
always logs to either the root logger or to an anonymous
logger so logging to the logger named in the event would cause
some of the TR  logging event to go to the different java util
logging then the the intendeted one.

Problem conclusion

To prevent the FFDC Entry from getting logged in to the
application log, implemented a root logger to ensure that
FFDC incident are getting logged in to correct intended log
handler.

APAR PI09736 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs
7.0.0.33, 8.0.0.9 and 8.5.5.3 of WebSphere Application Server.
