Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users deploying the *
    *                  DefaultApplication from WebSphere           *
    *                  Application Server version 9.0.0.11.        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The 9.0.0.11 version of *
    *                      DefaultApplication enabled file         *
    * serving for the context root "/" which *
    * affected static file serving. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Customers who deploy the DefaultAppliction from version
    9.0.0.11 and also use the WebSphere WebServer Plug-in,
    could see their static files no longer being served.
    With file serving enabled for the context root "/" by the
    DefaultApplication, static files are served from the WebSphere
    Application Server instead of by the WebSphere WebServer
    Plug-in.
    Customers who do not install the DefaultApplication will not
    see this behavior change.
    Customers who apply fix pack 9.0.0.11 over an existing
    installation, will not get the modified application installed
    automatically and will not see a behavior change.

Problem conclusion

  • This problem is being fixed in 9.0.5.0 by adding
    <enable-file-serving value="false"/> to the ibm-web-ext.xml
    file in the web module of DefaultApplication so that file
    serving is disabled by default.

    If you deployed the 9.0.0.11 version of DefaultApplication,
    redeploy the 9.0.5 version of DefaultApplication and
    regenerate your WebSphere WebServer Plug-in.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 9.0.5.0 Please refer to the Recommended Updates
    page for delivery information:

Temporary fix

  • If you experience this problem in 9.0.0.11, you can uninstall
    the DefaultApplication and regenerate your WebSphere WebServer
    Plug-in.
