Severity: 2

When the counter for ifInOctets and ifOutOctets reaches the
maximum value, it will only display this value (4294967295).
Instead it should wrap to 0.

Local fix

  • 



Problem summary


    

  • /proc/net/dev was outputting device statistics as 64 bit values.
Reading this as 32 bit values caused then to become clamped at
4294967295.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • We now read the device statistics in /proc/net/dev as 64 bit
values, allowing the numbers to wrap back to zero when they
exceed the maximum value.

The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
packages:
