Error description
SSM 4 ABSTRACT: On some Solaris Systems Disks the SSM can mark disk devices as down incorrectly. DESCRIPTION: The SSM on some Solaris machines will mark disks as down in the hrDeviceTable. This can happen even though the disk devices are operational.
Local fix
Await workaround using inivar The INIVAR would be a new variable. It would allow customers who experience this issue to "override" the string that we map with. It wouldn't be automatically set. and wouldn't be enabled by default. Basically it would allow us to fix this particular case with a configuration option. So in order to deploy the fix the customer would a) apply the patch b) update their init.cfg

Problem conclusion
This issue is resolved by the addition of a Inivar that allows the user to explicitly map between the kstat and libdevinfo values. This inivar is called SolarisDiskValue. Information on how to use it is as follows: When hostres cannot automatically map device names, this inivar maps the strings found in kstat to the matching device in the libdevinfo tree. The format is: SolarisDiskValue=kstat_device_class=devinfo_device_class[,kstat_ device_class=devinfo_device_class,kstat_device_class=devinfo_dev ice_class,...] To find the value to map to, find the class name of the disks. 1. Look at hrDeviceDescr to get the kstat value. For example, in this description which contains the serial number of the device sd0: HITACHI H106060SDSUN600G, the kstat device class is SD. 2. Search the output of prtconf for the same serial number to get the devinfo value. For example, disk, instance #0 (driver not attached) Hardware properties: name=?inquiry-revision-id? type=string items=1 value=?A2B0? name=?inquiry-product-id? type=string items=1 value=?H106060SDSUN600G? name=?inquiry-vendor-id? type=string items=1 value=?HITACHI? gives you a devinfo device class of disk. In this example, SolarisDiskValue=sd=disk The fix for this APAR is contained in the SSM 4.0.1 release.
