Error description

  • When using FastCGI customer intermittently receives following
    error:
    (1128)EDC8128I Connection refused. (errno2=0x120D0253): FastCGI:
    failed to connect to server
    Problem appears to be due to the fact that mod_fastcgi does not
    tolerate any delay between when the CGI application creates a
    Unix domain socket name in the filesystem, and when it is
    actually listening for connections.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM HTTP Server users of mod_fastcgi *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Occasionally an HTTP request that is *
    * routed to an IBM HTTP Server FastCGI *
    * application fails with ECONNREFUSED. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If the system is stopped suddenly, for example for an IPL,
    after using a dynamic FastCGI application, a Unix domain socket
    name representing the FastCGI application may be left in the
    <IHS_install>/logs/fastcgi/dynamic/ directory.  When IHS is
    restarted and a web request arrives for this application,
    mod_fastcgi sees the Unix domain socket name, thinks it is
    already running, and does not start the application until a
    connect() attempt times out.
    When the system is busy, a FastCGI application may be slow to
    start and a connect() system call may fail with ECONNREFUSED.
    Under these conditions, the HTTP request for that application
    may fail the first time, then work fine later. A connection
    refused error appears in the error log.

Problem conclusion

  • mod_fastcgi will remove any files from
    logs/fastcgi/dynamic/ at startup.
    mod_fastcgi is changed to tolerate delay in starting FastCGI
    applications. In addition, EINTR (syscall interrupted) errors
    are retried immediately.

Temporary fix

  • rm <IHS_install>/logs/fastcgi/dynamic/*
