Security Bulletin: WebSphere Application Server - IBM SDK for Java April 2013 CPU

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

Multiple security vulnerabilites exist in the IBM SDK for Java that is shipped with IBM WebSphere Application Server.

Content

The IBM WebSphere Application Server is shipped with an IBM SDK for Java that is based on the Oracle JDK. Oracle has released April 2013 critical patch updates (CPU) which contain security vulnerability fixes and the IBM SDK for Java has been updated to incorporate those updates.

Vulnerability Details

CVE-2013-0169 - The TLS protocol does not properly consider timing side-channel attacks, which could allow remote attackers to conduct distinguishing attacks and plain-text recovery attacks via statistical analysis of timing data for crafted packets, aka the "Lucky Thirteen" issue. This was previously shipped with the IBM SDK for Java for the Oracle February CPU. http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21627634
The fix is the same for both the February and April CPU updates. The fix was added for WebSphere Application Server on top of the February CPU and incorporated in the SDK for the April CPU.
