This SupportPac provides material to help you get started with WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe. It consists of two elements:
A Presentation
This introduces WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe. In particular it:
- Describes the publish/subscribe model
- Introduces some of the key terms and concepts
- Shows how messages (and information) flow within an WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe network
- Describes the format of the messages used by applications using WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe
- Describes the commands that are available for controlling WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe
- Illustrates the features available to the systems programmer
A Tutorial
The tutorial will teach you how to:
- Start and end brokers
- Run the supplied Publish/Subscribe sample application
- Write your first simple publishing application
- Write your first simple subscribing application
- Create a small broker network
- Extend the supplied Publish/Subscribe sample application
- Finally, delete brokers
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Knowledge of WebSphere MQ is required to understand the concepts in the introductory presentation.
Knowledge of WebSphere MQ application programming in C is required by persons using the tutorial.

Prerequisites
WebSphere MQ V5.3 CSD08 or later.

Installation Instructions
To install the tutorial files on Windows:
- Create an empty directory and make it current.
- Download file ma0d.zip to this directory.
- Uncompress using InfoZip's Unzip.
- Follow the steps in the readme.txt file
To install the tutorial files on a UNIX platform:
- Download ma0d.tar.Z in binary
- Execute uncompress -fv /tmp/ma0d.tar.Z
- Execute tar -xvf /tmp/ma0d.tar.
- Execute rm /tmp/ma0d.tar.
- This will create the necessary files.
- Follow the steps in the readme.txt file
