MA0F is a simple application programming interface, providing support for point-to-point and publish/subscribe messaging.
Download Description
The WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) Application Messaging Interface is a simple application programming interface, providing support for point-to-point and publish/subscribe messaging.
Withdrawn notice: This SupportPac has been withdrawn as WebSphere MQ v6 is End of Service.
Important Notice
After June 2003, IBM has no plans to enhance the AMI with any new functions or platforms. IBM will however continue to support the AMI as described in the Technical Support section below.
We would recommend that customers do not use the AMI for any new projects and do not extend usage in existing projects. This recommendation does not apply to functions shipped by other IBM products, such as DB2, that have made use of the AMI. IBM is working to ensure that these products are able to provide the same functionality as today without the AMI.
The WebSphere MQ Application Messaging Interface Administration Tool is an application which creates repository files for use with the WebSphere MQ Application Messaging Interface. This is available for use on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 only.
The WebSphere MQ AMI is available in:
» C
» C++
» Java
In C there is an object-style interface similar to the C++ and Java interfaces and a high-level interface that is procedural in style.
The AMI provides support for:
- WebSphere MQ messaging products
- WebSphere MQ Publish/Subscribe
- MQSeries Integrator V1.1
- MQSeries Integrator V2.1
- WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker/Event Broker V2.1
- WebSphere Business Integration Brokers, V5
This SupportPac supplies the WebSphere MQ Application Messaging Interface for the following:
• V1.2.5 for Windows NT V4, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, AIX, Sun Solaris and HP-UX V11.
• The WebSphere MQ AMI V1.2.1 is also provided for iSeries.
• The WebSphere MQ AMI V1.2 (for C and COBOL) is also provided for use with WebSphere MQ for z/OS Version 6.
Note: The WebSphere MQ Application Messaging Interface V1.1 (for C and COBOL) is provided as part of the MQSeries for OS/390 - V5.2 product. The WebSphere MQ AMI V1.2 (for C and COBOL) is provided as part of the WebSphere MQ for z/OS V5.3 (and V5.3.1) products.
Possible Uses
The AMI simplifies application development by moving function from the application program into a data repository. This reduces the need for much of the in-depth WebSphere MQ knowledge required by application programmers by moving this responsibility to a small number of specialist administrators within an organisation. The administrators create policy and service definitions in the AMI repository file, which is then referenced by AMI programs.
WebSphere MQ AMI repository files can be created using the WebSphere MQ AMI Administration Tool. This is included in this SupportPac for use with Windows NT, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003.
Skill Level Required
This SupportPac should be installed by an WebSphere MQ system administrator. Use of the WebSphere MQ AMI programming interface requires knowledge of point-to-point or publish/subscribe messaging in addition to knowledge of the specific programming language selected.
Use of the WebSphere MQ AMI Administration Tool requires an in-depth knowledge of WebSphere MQ configuration and programming options.

Technical support
Category 3 WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) SupportPacs are supplied under the standard terms and conditions provided by the International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and thus carry program defect service.
Please read the license files that accompany the SupportPac to ensure you understand the conditions under which the SupportPac is provided.
If you encounter what you believe to be a defect with the SupportPac you may request Program Services by reporting the problem via the same defect reporting channel you employ for the WebSphere MQ or MQSeries server product(s), v6.0 on which you are using the SupportPac.
Service is available for this SupportPac for as long as the prerequisite WebSphere MQ server products (v6.0) are in service. It is only supported when used with a level of MQSeries or WebSphere MQ which is itself currently supported.
