Host On-Demand Windows platform installation failure

 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
"A suitable JVM could not be found" error when trying to upgrade or install Host On-Demand

Cause
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Host On-Demand, you may get the message that a suitable JVM cannot be found. If the install does succeed but you get this message, you may not be able to start the Host On-Demand Service Manager.
If you try to uninstall the failed version from the Add/Remove Programs, you may see one or both of these errors:

    Microsoft Management Console
Could not start the Host On-Demand Service Manager service on Local Computer.
Error 1016: An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contains the system's image of the registry.

    InstallShield Wizard
A suitable JVM could not be found. Please run the program again using the option -is: javahome <JAVA HOME DIR>.

To uninstall any version getting these errors, go to the command prompt and change directory to c:\Program Files\IBM\HostOnDemand\uninst. Check that the hoduninstall.jar file is located in this directory.
Type java -jar hoduninstall.jar and hit enter. This command should initiate the InstallShield screen for the uninstall. Complete the uninstall through the InstallShield screen.

If the java command is not recognized, provide the entire path such as
"C:/Program Files/Java/jre150_06/bin/java" -jar hoduninstall.jar
.

Resolving the problem
The best solution for an upgrade or migration to avoid this problem is to uninstall the previous version. This method does leave the custom html files ,the private directory, and other certificates intact.
After the uninstall of the previous version and before installing the new version, you should reboot your computer.
