HTML parameters may not work as expected when accessing Host On-Demand file from a UNC shared drive

 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Some Host On-Demand HTML parameters that allow access from a shared drive do not work as expected

Cause
When configuring an installation of the cached client from a LAN or CD, the customer may map a drive to access the contents to cache.

Current documentation implies installing from a LAN or CD can be used, but does not explicitly say that the drive must be mapped.

The documentation instructs you to prepare the client machine for installation by doing the following:

  • Gain access to the LAN drive or CD drive.
  • Obtain the name and location of the HTML file, such as f:\myPath\MyHOD.html, that the system administrator has placed on the LAN drive or CD.
(The HTML file has the same name and the same contents for all users. It is not specific to one user.)

For example, when a direct reference to a server is used in the format with the parameter, WebServerHostname, and the value is listed as
    //your file server name/shared name/HOD_Image/MyHOD.html

the HTML parameter value fails to be recognized and a pop-up is displayed asking for the WebServerHostname.

Resolving the problem
Host On-Demand is not able to read the HTML parameter value when the shared drive is referenced in this format, \\Server Name\Sharename\*.html.
The HTML parameter value is read when the applet is invoked with a mapped network drive such as f:\myPath:\*.html.

The Host On-Demand Information Center implicitly indicates that the HTML must be invoked from the mapped/local drive, as follows:
    Run the HTML file:
Type the path and name of the HTML file in the browser's address input field, such as:

      f:/mypath/MyHOD.html
where f: refers to a mapped drive or local drive
