Software Service Levels

THIS SECTION CONTAINS THE MINIMUM REQUIRED SOFTWARE PRODUCT LEVELS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THIS DEVICE. 6. 19/07/17 When performing a concurrent driver upgrade from driver D32 to driver D36, to avoid a loss of network connectivity from within z/VM LPARs, please ensure the target driver D36 bundle is 19a or higher. Prior to performing the driver upgrade, please ensure the PTFs for the following z/VM APARs have been applied and z/VM LPARs re-IPLed: VM66216 and PH04374 for z/VM 6.4 (included in the base of z/VM 7.1), and PI99085 for z/VM 6.4 and 7.1 5. 18/10/02 With Driver D32 bundle 55a, the DPM ECKD support (aka DPM Storage Management support) has been enabled. The migration will take place automatically when installing the enablement bundle. Depending on your current (i.e. prior to installing bundle 55a) FCP configuration, changes in the SAN setup regarding zoning and masking are recommended. These changes are documented in the IBM Dynamic Partition Manager (DPM) Guide (SB10-7170-01c) 4. 18/10/02 The following z/VM 6.4.0 and z/VM 7.1.0 service is available in support of the IBM z14, IBM z14 Model ZR1, LinuxONE Emperor II, and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers running with driver D36: With the PTF for APAR VM66180 (and all required pre-requisite APARs), z/VM V6.4 and z/VM V7.1 provide guest exploitation support and Dynamic I/O support for the IBM Adapter for NVMe adapter when installed in an IBM LinuxONE Emperor II or IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper II server. With the PTF for APAR PI99085, z/VM V6.4 and V7.1 provide support for the OSA-Express7S 25GbE SR adapter within the TCP/IP stack and NETSTAT command. PTF availability is planned during 1Q19 prior to the April 9, 2019 adapter availability. Support for driver D36 also requires the following z/VM 6.4 and 7.1 APARs: - HCD support requires the PTF for APAR VM66130 - HCM support requires the PTF for APAR VM65598 - IOCP support requires the PTF for APAR VM66179 No additional z/VM 6.4 or z/VM 7.1 APARs beyond the previously available z14 APARs are required to support: - The 25GbE RoCE Express2 adapter - The FCP Express32S adapter when installed in an IBM LinuxONE Emperor II or IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper II server. 3. 18/06/01 z/VM 6.4.0 is the only z/VM release supporting the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers. End of service for z/VM 6.3 was reached on December 31, 2017. 2. 18/05/22 The following z/VM 6.4.0 service is required in support of the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers and must be applied before z/VM 6.4 is IPLed on these servers. The PTF for APAR VM65639 (and all required pre-requisite APARs) provides support for the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers and must be applied as part of upgrading z/VM 6.4. This APAR provides changes to CP Monitor in support of capacity planning for the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers. 1. 18/04/10 The following z/VM 6.4.0 service is available in support of the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers: If you are upgrading to a z14 Model ZR1 or LinuxONE Rockhopper II server, you MUST upgrade the Stand Alone Program Loader (SAPL), or else you won't be able to IPL z/VM. Refer to the red alert at the following URL: http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/redalert/#SAPLZ14 for more information. z/VM support for the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers: With the PTF for APAR VM65942 (and all required pre-requisite APARs), z/VM V6.4 provides support that will enable guests to exploit function supported by z/VM on IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers, which includes: - z/Architecture support: The CP nucleus (CPLOAD), the z/VM Stand-Alone Program Loader (SAPL) utility, DASD Dump Restore (DDR), and the image files used by the Stand-Alone Dump utility have been enhanced to run entirely in z/Architecture mode. z/Architecture support for these utilities, the CP nucleus are in the base of z/VM V6.4. - New hardware facilities: z/VM will enable guest use of new instructions and capabilities available on IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers: - Miscellaneous-Instruction-Extensions Facility 2 - Vector Enhancements Facility 1 - Vector Packed Decimal Facility - Message-Security-Assist Extensions 6, 7, and 8 - ESA/390-compatibility mode for guests: IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers no longer support the full ESA/390 architectural mode. However, IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers do provide ESA/390-compatibility mode, an environment supporting a subset of DAT-off ESA/390 applications in a hybrid architectural mode. z/VM will provide the support necessary for DAT-off guests to run in this new compatibility mode, which allows guests such as CMS, GCS, and those that start in ESA/390 mode briefly before switching to z/Architecture mode to continue to run on IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers. - The available PTF for APAR VM65976 provides infrastructure support for ESA/390 compatibility mode within z/VM V6.2, V6.3, and V6.4, and must be installed on all members of an SSI cluster before any z/VM V6.4 member of the cluster is run on an IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers. - Support for Crypto Express6S: z/VM Support for the new Crypto Express6S (CEX6S) adapter is included for both shared and dedicated guest use. As with the prior crypto adapter support, the CEX6S adapter can be configured as an accelerator or as an IBM Common Cryptographic Architecture (CCA) coprocessor for shared or dedicated use by z/Architecture guests. When the CEX6S adapter is configured as an IBM Enterprise Public-Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS) #11 (EP11) coprocessor, the domains on the adapter can be dedicated to z/Architecture guests, but not shared. With Crypto Express6S support and support for the new and enhanced CPACF functions, z/VM V6.4 provide the prerequisite IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II encryption support to enable exploitation by guests in support of pervasive encryption. - Crypto Clear Key ECC operations: Clear-key Elliptic Curve Cryptographic (ECC) operations are supported for guests enrolled in the z/VM-managed shared-crypto queue (APVIRT). The shared-crypto queue must be configured with CCA coprocessor domains in order for the function to be virtualized for guest use. - Dynamic I/O support: Dynamic I/O support is provided for managing the configuration of OSA-Express6S OSD CHPIDs, FICON Express16S+ FC and FCP CHPIDs, and Regional Crypto Enablement (RCE), zHyperLink, and RoCE Express2 adapters. The available PTF for APAR VM65865 provides dynamic I/O support for the Coupling Express LR adapter in z/VM V6.4, and is applicable to z13, z13s, z14, z14 Model ZR1, and LinuxONE servers. - RoCE Express2 support: Guest exploitation support for RoCE Express2 allows the adapters to be brought online and attached to supporting guests for exploitation. - Improved memory management efficiency: the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II processor design allows greater concurrency in address translation. This improvement may increase z/VM workloads' performance compared to z13, IBM LinuxONE Emporer I and Rockhopper I servers, particularly when z/VM is configured to exploit multithreading. Note, VM65942 has been found to have an error, and VM66071 has been created to address it. The problem found does not involve z14 support directly. It involves a scenario where older crypto adapters (Crypto Express 2 or Crypto Express 3) are configured as an accelerator shared amongst z/VM guests. Systems with newer crypto adapters (such as z13 or z14) or z/VM LPARs without any crypto adapters configured will not experience the problem. Installing z/VM on the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers: z/VM V6.4 can be installed directly on a z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II server with an image obtained from IBM after August 25, 2017. The PTFs for APAR VM65942 and VM65639 must be applied immediately after installing z/VM V6.4. APAR VM65942 is available on RSU6403 (1702). Alternate Subchannel Set Dynamic I/O support: With the PTF for APAR VM65942, z/VM V6.4 provides dynamic I/O commands within the z/VM hypervisor for supporting define, modify, and delete of a device within either the default or alternate subchannel sets. HCD support is currently not available. Support for the z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers also require the following APARs: - ICKDSF support requires APAR PI46151. - EREP/VM support requires APAR VM65952. - HCD support requires APARs VM65843, VM66015 - HCD support for LinuxONE Rockhopper II requires APARs VM66009, VM66017 - HCM support requires APAR VM65266. - IOCP support requires APAR VM65939. - HLASM support requires APARs PI62275 and PI65715. The following z/VM 6.4.0 exploitation items are available in support of the IBM z14 Model ZR1 and LinuxONE Rockhopper II servers: - APAR VM65986 provides support for guest exploitation of the z14 Instruction Execution Protection Facility. This facility provides functionality to help improve the security of programs running on IBM Z by allowing virtual memory elements to be identified as containing only data. If an attempt is made to fetch an instruction from an address in such an element or if an address in such an element is the target of an execute-type instruction, a Protection Exception will occur. - APAR VM65987 provides support for guest exploitation of the z14 Guarded Storage Facility. This facility is designed to improve the performance of garbage-collection processing by various languages, in particular Java. - APAR VM65993 provides support for encrypted paging, in support of the IBM z14 pervasive encryption philosophy of encrypting data in flight and at rest. Ciphering will occur as data moves between active memory and a paging volume owned by z/VM. Included in the support is the ability to dynamically control whether a running z/VM system is encrypting this data.
