DS6000 Requirements for 2007 Daylight Savings Time Changes in the United States and Canada

Abstract
This document discusses the effect of 2007 Daylight Savings Time (DST) changes on the DS6000.
Content
Pursuant to a provision of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the United States will begin observing DST from the second Sunday in March until the first Sunday in November beginning in 2007. The Act moved up the beginning of DST to the second Sunday in March from the first Sunday in April. The return to standard time will be delayed a week, from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November.
As the DS6000 time is set to GMT, no modification is required to support the 2007 DST changes. SNMP traps and call home messages are generated by the controllers and use GMT as their time basis. IBM believes that they are not affected by the changes to DST. However, two updates to the Storage Management Console used by the DS6000 do need updates to ensure that the timestamps in Storage Manager and the DSCLI are correctly shown.
1. Since the SMC used by the DS6000 runs on a Microsoft Windows operating system platform, you will need to update the Microsoft Windows operating system to address the DST issue. Please refer to the Microsoft link Preparing for daylight savings time changes in 2007 for operating system specific requirements.
2. A forthcoming release of microcode for the SMC is also required to ensure that the correct timestamps are recorded. Customers may notice that the timestamps will be off by one hour until the microcode is installed. IBM does not expect that the incorrect clock settings will result in data integrity or functional problems.
