CN01 provides support for in-bound SOAP requests to be translated to program invocations in TXSeries, exposing existing TXSeries programs as Web services.
Download Description
SupportPac CN01 introduces a basic Web services framework into TXSeries, allowing TXSeries to act as a Web services provider. Existing transactions and programs, such as CICS programs written in C and COBOL, can then be exposed as Web services. You can also write new programs and transactions, that can be exposed as Web services.
The SupportPac is bundled as a Web application that runs under a light-weight infrastructure, bundled as part of TXSeries. The light-weight infrastructure addresses the need for a minimal footprint that is easy to configure, and has a secure infrastructure for hosting Web applications and Web services. The light-weight infrastructure leverages the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGI) or Eclipse platform from Lotus Expeditor to provide a generic, platform independent runtime environment. Light-weight infrastructure functions as the Web request gateway for the TXSeries Web services. The same light-weight infrastructure will be used for the TXSeries Administration tool as well.
The tool CICS Web Services Assistant is provided in this SupportPac, which performs language structure conversions and creates Web service description language (WSDL) files from the language structure. Details of the deployment steps necessary to expose a CICS application as a Web service are provided in the TXSeries Information Center documentation.
Possible Uses
Distributed CICS programs, and other programs written for TXSeries, can be consumed by tools and products that integrate with Web services.
Skill level required
Intermediate TXSeries and application programming skills.
