CICS Explorer 1.0.0.2 is now available for CICS TS V4.1 or V3

| | | Abstract | | If you are a licensed user of CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V4.1, or CICS TS V3, you can now download an updated version of the IBM CICS Explorer. Version 1.0.0.2 provides various bug fixes so you should install it at your earliest convenience. It also provides CICS System Definition (CSD) support to the CICS Explorer for CICS TS 4.1. Updates to the CICS tools plug-ins for the CICS Explorer are also now available. | | | | | | Content | The APARs in the following table and corresponding new versions provide the bug fixes and CSD support:
* CICS CM plug-in Version 2.1.0.2 and APAR IZ62228 were replaced on 22 October 2009. The new Version adds Japanese (Kanji) language translation support and fixes two bugs as documented in the Readme.
CICS TS V4.1 APAR PK90112 provides the ability to administer CICS through the CSD in the CICS Explorer for CICS TS 4.1. You can apply the PTFs for PK90112 the way you would normally apply maintenance to CICS using SMP/E. See Ordering CICS products and maintenance for the options that are available to order CICS PTF(s).
There are no PTFs associated with the APARs for the CICS Explorer or the CICS tools plug-ins. IBM provides two methods for you to obtain the maintenance for the CICS Explorer. You can use the preferred method and update to the new version from within the CICS Explorer by applying the maintenance from an IBM-hosted Eclipse Update-site, or you can download the maintenance from IBM Fix Central. See the "Installation instructions" in the Readme for each product (linked to in the table above) for more details. The Readme also contains the prerequisites and the list of bugs fixed by each new version.
The IBM CICS Explorer Downloads Web page has been updated to simplify what you will have to do if downloading the CICS Explorer for the first time. The CICS Explorer downloads are free, but you will be asked to register with ibm.com to receive the downloads.
Licensees of CICS Configuration Manager for z/OS (CICS CM) V1.2, CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS (CICS IA) V2.2, and CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS (CICS PA) V2.1 are reminded that their Service and Support subscription entitles them to download and use the most recent version of the CICS Explorer plug-in for each of the more current CICS tools listed above. To do this, you will need to install the latest version of the CICS Explorer. If you are using CICS TS V4.1 or V3 with CICS IA V2.2, you will also have to: - Apply the PTF for APAR PK87202 to CICS IA V2.2 to provide toleration support for the new CICS TS V4.1 database table formats.
- Apply the PTF for APAR PK90803 to CICS IA V2.2 to enable the CICS IA V3.1 GA plug-in to connect to data captured by CICS IA V2.2. Note that when the PTF for APAR PK90803 has been applied and the associated actions performed, you will not be able to use the stand-alone CICS IA Explorer that was originally supplied with CICS IA V2.2.
To use CICS IA V2.2 without the new database table formats (PK87202) you will have to use version 1.0.0.1 of the CICS Explorer and plug-in for CICS IA, available by clicking Continue on this IBM Support Fix Central Web site.
IBM is withdrawing the unsupported CICS Explorer SupportPacs for CICS TS V3.1 and V3.2 (CS1J for Microsoft Windows and CS10 for Linux), because with the General Availability (GA) of CICS TS V4.1 and the CICS Explorer, these SupportPacs are no longer required. IBM has no immediate plans to update the unsupported CICS tools plug-ins SupportPac (CS1N) and recommends that you move to GA versions of the CICS Explorer and CICS tools plug-ins for the CICS Explorer.
Notes: - APAR IZ62254 for the CICS Explorer is applicable to CICS TS V4.1 and V3. You will see that this APAR is for release 100, not 600 (4.1) or 500 (3.2) or 400 (3.1).
- Support for CSD access from the CICS Explorer is not available for CICS TS V3.1 and 3.2. However, there are many bugs fixed in 1.0.0.2 so IBM recommends that you upgrade to this new version.
- CICS Explorer version 1.0.0.1 (IZ62213) provided minor bug fixes and was available in July.
