Backup, archive, and restore of Lotus Quickr places
How do I back up, archive, and restore places in IBM® Lotus® Quickr™ services for WebSphere® Portal?
Lotus Quickr services for WebSphere Portal allow you to back up, archive, and restore places just as you back up, archive, and restore composite applications in IBM WebSphere Portal. Quickr places are an extension of the composite application infrastructure. Therefore, you should be familiar with the concepts and tasks related to composite applications in WebSphere Portal as a prerequisite to working with Lotus Quickr places.
Backup, archive, and restore of a Quickr place allows portal administrators and application managers to make a backup copy of a place, archive the place, and, when needed, restore the archived place. Place status that is monitored and detected by policies will help you determine the maintenance action that you need to perform.
First you must enable the backup property for the place. After creating a place, edit the properties of the place and set the property Application Backup for Archiving and Restore to Enable: Open the place, click Customize -> Properties -> Edit Properties -> Edit. For the property Application Backup for Archiving and Restore, select Enable and click OK. Repeat this property setting for each place that you want to be able to back up, archive, and restore.
From Manage Places, see the status of each place as determined by its policy and the icons for Backup, Archive, and Restore. Actions are available as appropriate for the state of the place. For example, the Restore icon displays only after a place has been backed up and archived.
- Click the Backup icon to create a copy of the application.
- Click the Archive icon to archive the application and delete it from the server where it was deployed.
- Click the Restore icon to restore a backup or archived copy of the application.
You can also view archived places from Manage Places. Filter the display of the places catalog using the Show list. From the Show list in Manage Places, select Archived Applications to display the applications that have been backed up and archived. This filter choice is available to administrators.
In addition to the WebSphere Portal Information Center topics listed below, you can find WebSphere Portal Help topics for applications within your Lotus Quickr place contexts:
- From Manage Places, move the mouse pointer under and to the center of the portlet title to display Click for options; then click that link to display the Applications panel. Click Help to display the Applications catalog topic, which includes information about backing up and restoring applications. The places in the place catalog are applications.
- From within a particular place, click Customize -> Properties -> Edit Properties. Move the mouse pointer above and to the center of the portlet title Edit Application Properties of <place name> to display Click for options; then click that link to display the Properties panel. Click Help to display the Application Properties topic, which includes information about backing up and restoring the application. Because the place is an application, place properties correspond to application properties.

Lotus Quickr displays the application property
Application Backup for Archiving and Restore in the Properties portlet; therefore, you will not need to edit the backup.properties file as stated for WebSphere Portal Version 18.104.22.168.
This topic describes the feature, its use, and who can use it -- namely, portal administrators and application managers. If you are unfamiliar with the access rights granted to application managers, refer to the following topics:
The application (or place) property
Application Backup for Archiving and Restoring allows you to enable or disable the backup feature. Enabling backup for an application or a place causes the Backup, Archive, and Restore icons to display in the applications catalog (Applications) or places catalog (Manage Places).
The following topics in the WebSphere Portal Information Center are related to application (place) backup, archive, and restore:
Working with application policies
Application (place) policies provide an efficient way for administrators and application managers to monitor and manage application lifecycle. Depending on current conditions of an application (place), you can decide to assign a different policy, edit the policy settings, or perform a maintenance action on the application (place): backup, archive, restore, or delete.
Every application (place) template stores the value of the application (place) parameter Policy Selection Attribute. For each new application (place) template that you create, you can specify the value of the Policy Selection Attribute that assigns the child policy to all applications (places) created from the template. The assigned policy specifies the application (place) conditions that are monitored and reported to help you determine when to perform maintenance actions such as backing up, archiving, restoring, or deleting the application.
