Password errors when using Web Conferencing Portlet; Portlet may not show meetings from Sametime meeting server
|
| | | | Problem | After setting up the Lotus® Web Conferencing Portlet in IBM® WebSphere® Portal v5, you attempt to create a new meeting or search for an existing meeting and you see one of the following errors in the portlet:
"Authentication failed with the Sametime server"
Or you may see the initial message the portlet displays:
"Lotus Web Conferencing lets users attend and schedule IBM Lotus Web Conferencing (Sametime) meetings. To configure, modify the Sametime server parameters for the portlet."
The portlet appears to be configured correctly, as users are able to create meetings from the portlet; however, the portlet is unable to do any types of searches from the portlet , and it may not display a list of the meetings regardless of the meeting state on the Lotus Sametime server.
While troubleshooting this problem, you may find the following exception in either the trace.log or wps<timestamp>.log file: 1fbf7e8f SystemErr R [Fatal Error] :3:132: The element type "meta" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</meta>". java.lang.NullPointerException 1fbf7e8f SystemErr R at com.lotus.sametime.meetingmanagement.remote.client.connection.ServerConnection.authenticate(Unknown Source) 1fbf7e8f SystemErr R at com.lotus.sametime.meetingmanagement.remote.client.utilities.User.authenticate(Unknown Source) 1fbf7e8f SystemErr R at com.lotus.sametime.meetingmanagement.remote.MeetingServicesRemote.authenticateUser(Unknown Source) 1fbf7e8f SystemErr R at com.lotus.sametime.meetingmanagement.remote.MeetingServicesRemote.<init>(Unknown Source)... | | | | | | | | Resolving the problem | These errors can occur due to any of the following configuration problems: 1. Single Sign-On (SSO) does not work with the IBM® Lotus® Sametime® server
To troubleshoot this issue please use the following technote: "Troubleshooting WebSphere Portal, Domino Extended Products, and Domino SSO Issues" (#1158269). 2. Incorrect username and/or password specified in Portlet parameters
To check this do the following:
1. Go to Portal Administration.
2. Select Portlets > Manage Portlets.
3. Select 'Lotus Web Conferencing'.
4. Click 'Modify Parameters'.
5. Make sure SametimeServer1 is set to the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your Sametime server.
6. Make sure the SametimeUserName1 and SametimePassword1 are correct. This user must satisfy the following conditions:
a. The user should exist in the Domino Directory (names.nsf) on the Sametime server. If the user also exists in the LDAP directory used by Sametime server use the Domino canonical format of the user name (Domino Admin/IBM), as opposed to the flat format (domino admin or dadmin).
b. The user should be an administrator of Sametime. How to test this:
- Go to http://sametime.domain.com/stcenter.nsf
- Click on Administer the Server. Whatever username/password you enter here will be the user name and password that needs to be entered above. 3. Reverse Proxy setting enabled for Pinnacor Portlets causes Portlet to NOT be able to contact Sametime Server
In WebSphere Portal v5.0 and 5.0.2 if you enable a proxy server for the Pinnacor portlets using the technote "Configuring Pinnacor Portlets to display data" (#1114624), the proxy server is set for the entire JVM. This causes the Lotus portlet to not be able to contact the Sametime server.
A fix for this issue is available from IBM Lotus Technical Support. 4. Incorrect information in "SametimeServer1" field
These errors may occur if an incorrect entry exists in the "SametimeServer1" field. This field should be checked to ensure that the fully qualified name of the Sametime server is specified. To check the field:
1. Select Administration in the Portal toolbar.
2. Select Portlets > Manage Portlets.
3. Search for 'Web' and choose the Web Conferences portlet.
4. Click 'Modify Parameters'.
5. Ensure that the SametimeServer1 field contains the proper Sametime server address, and the SametimeUserName1 and SametimePassword1 fields have the proper credentials for Sametime.
The errors may also occur if the SametimeUserName1 field contains an incorrectly formatted entry. It is in this case that the portlet may not list meetings on the Sametime meeting server as expected. The Sametime admin user added to STConfig.nsf during the Portlet's setup likely resides in the LDAP directory used by the Sametime server. When the portlet passes the flat name (Domino Admin) to Domino for authentication, both the user in the Domino Directory and the user in the LDAP are found. This results in an inability to properly log the user into Domino. To resolve the problem, change the name from the flat name to a Domino canonical one, Domino Admin/IBM. | | | | | | | | | Cross Reference information | | Segment | Product | Component | Platform | Version | Edition | | Messaging Applications | Lotus End of Support Products | Lotus Sametime | | | |
