Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All RMF users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: RMF support for High Performance FICON * * for System z (zHPF) and * * RMF enhancements for HiperDispatch. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: None. * **************************************************************** This APAR provides the RMF support for High Performance FICON for System z (zHPF) comprising of: - Extended channel measurement group 2 data in - SMF record 73 (*) - SMF record 79 subtype 12 (**) - New report fields about FICON and zHPF activity in the RMF Postprocessor Channel Path Activity report (*) - New Postprocessor Overview conditions for SMF record 73 (*) - New report fields about FICON and zHPF activity in the Monitor II and Monitor III Channel Path reports (**) - Higher precision of I/O service times in Postprocessor and and Monitor II Device Activity reports (*) In addition, this APAR provides further enhancements for HiperDispatch comprising of: - New polarization indicators in the PR/SM Logical Processor Data section of SMF record 70 subtype 1 (*) - The SYSTEM ADDRESS SPACE ANALYSIS section of the RMF Postprocessor CPU Activity report is enhanced. The distribution of the In Ready queue is done based on the number of processors being ONLINE. With this APAR and HiperDispatch active, the distribution is based on the number of processors ONLINE AND NOT PARKED. This also affects SMF record fields SMF70Q00 to SMF70Q12 as described below. (*) Besides this support for System z10, this APAR also enhances SMF record 74 subtype 4 (CF Activity). The partition identifier of the CF is added to the Local CF Data section as described below. (**) (*) provided for z/OS V1.7 RMF and up (**) provided for z/OS V1.8 RMF and up . >>>>>> CHANNEL PATH ACTIVITY REPORTS <<<<<< The Postprocessor Channel Path Activity report is extended by following new report fields: FICON OPERATIONS RATE - Number of native FICON operations per second. ACTIVE - The average number of native FICON operations that are concurrenlty active. DEFER - Number of deferred native FICON operations per second. This is the number of operations that could not be initiated by the channel due to lack of available resources. ZHPF OPERATIONS RATE - Number of zHPF operations per second. ACTIVE - The average number of zHPF operations that are concurrenlty active. DEFER - Number of deferred zHPF operations per second. This is the number of operations that could not be initiated by the channel due to lack of available resources. The Monitor II and Monitor III Channel Path Activity reports display following new fields: FICON OPS Rate The rate of native FICON operations. FICON OPS Actv The average number of native FICON operations that are concurrently active. zHPF OPS Rate The rate of native zHPF (High Performance FICON) operations. zHPF OPS Actv The average number of native zHPF (High Performance FICON) operations that are concurrently active. Because of the limited space on the ISPF report screens, these new fields replace the fields which were available for HiperSockets (MSG Rate, MSG Size, Send Fail, and Recv Fail). For Monitor III, the fields available for HiperSockets can be displayed by customizing the CHANNEL report with the Monitor III Utility. >>>>>> DEVICE ACTIVITY REPORTS <<<<<< The number of decimal places for the I/O service times is increased. The values in units of milliseconds are formatted with up to three decimal places now. Following report fields are affected in the Postprocessor DEVICE and SDEVICE Activity and the Monitor II Device Activity reports: RESP TIME, IOSQ TIME, CMR DLY, DB DLY, PEND TIME, DISC TIME, and CONN TIME >>>>>> POSTPROCESSOR OVERVIEW CONDITIONS <<<<<< Following new overview conditions are provided for SMF record type 73: CONDITIONS CONDITION QUALIFIER SOURCE ALGORITHM NAME ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ FICON operations CHFRATE Channel SMF73EOC (EOC-EOD) per second Path ID SMF73EOD / intvl ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ FICON oparations CHFACTV Channel SMF73EOS EOS / EOC concurrently Path ID SMF73EOC active ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ FICON oparations CHFDFER Channel SMF73EOD EOD / intvl deferred Path ID ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ zHPF operations CHFXRATE Channel SMF73ETC (ETC-ETD) per second Path ID SMF73ETD / intvl ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ zHPF operations CHFXACTV Channel SMF73ETS ETS / ETC concurrently Path ID SMF73ETC active ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ zHPF operations CHFXDFER Channel SMF73ETD ETD / intvl deferred Path ID ----------------+-----------+---------+--------+------------ >>>>> SMF RECORD TYPE 70 TO 79 - RMF PRODUCT SECTION <<<<< The SMF record level change number SMFxxSRL at offset 51 (x33) changes to 85 (x55). >>>>> SMF RECORD TYPE 73 - CHANNEL PATH ACTIVITY <<<<< The Header/Self-defining section is extended by new triplet fields (offset/length/number): OFFSET NAME LEN FORMAT DESCRIPTION -------+--------+---+------+----------------------------------- 52 x34 SMF73HES 4 binary Offset to extended channel path data section 56 x38 SMF73HEL 2 binary Length of extended channel path data section 58 x3A SMF73HEN 2 binary Number of extended channel path data sections The Channel Path Control section is changed.
