IBM Support

Adding new attachments: Browse feature unsupported for non-default storage location

Troubleshooting

Problem

In Tpae-based products, such as IBM® Maximo® Asset Management, you can attach relevant information to a record in the form of a file or a URL address. In the Create a File Attachment window, if you clear the check box labeled 'Copy document to the default location set by your administrator', the Browse button is no longer available. To add an attachment, you must specify the full path to the file, including the file name and extension.

Symptom

You can no longer browse to files that are stored in a non-default location; the Browse feature is not supported.

Cause

For security reasons, the way that web browsers browse to files and attached documents has changed. In the past, when you used the Browse button, the entire path to the file was returned to the application. Now, no path information is included - only the file name is returned.

Environment

This restriction affects all browsers.

Resolving The Problem

Use a file explorer to navigate to the file. Copy and paste the full path to the file (including the file name and extension) into the 'Specify a file' field.
