Technote (FAQ)
Question
What alternatives do I have to get to the Extended Insight Analysis Dashboard provided with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.1?
Cause
Not all OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert customers will have nor necessarily want to deploy the ITM infrastructure to take advantage of the Extended Insight response time analysis capabilities delivered with OM PE V5.1. This technote clarifies for customers and technical specialists that there is another supported configuration for leveraging the Extended Insight functionality in addition to the Tivoli Enterprise Portal entry point.
Answer
When the Extended Insight Analysis capability is deployed within the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP), customers can navigate "in context" by subsystem to Extended Insight metrics when viewing information about DBAT threads (as defined within the TEP). Customers can also launch the same web-based user interface directly (that is shared with the Optim Performance Manager and distributed with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert) that is running inside the TEP directly via their favorite web browser.
Users have a choice! Customers can use either or both user interfaces as entry points to Extended Insight analysis:
- Complete the basic collector configuration. (This appears as "OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS" on ICAT's PRODUCT COMPONENT SELECTION MENU.)
- Run the appropriate additional configuration steps for the TEMA: (This appears as "OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Agent" on ICAT's PRODUCT COMPONENT SELECTION MENU.)
- Complete the basic collector configuration. (This appears as "OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS" on ICAT's PRODUCT COMPONENT SELECTION MENU.)
1. Within a predefined TEP workspace: Most OM PE customers will also configure Extended Insight for access via the TEP as part of their OMEGAMON configuration. Configuring Extended Insight to run within the TEP means primarily running the ICAT steps associated with identifying the location of the OPM application server. Configuring Extended Insight to run within the TEP enables subsystem-based context navigation to Extended Insight panels
