Error description
When running the cleartool protectvob command against an IBM Rational ClearCase VOB stored over NFS, you may encounter the following error if the hostname of the storage device and the root of the NFS share are greater than 64 characters combined: cleartool: Error: Unable to access '?path to vob storage?': File name too long. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a VOB where the storage is located on a NFS share where the NFS server hostname plus the root of the storage directory are greater than 64 characters, for example: hostname of the storage device root of the storage directory = NAS-DEVICE:/vol/abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz12345678910/reallylong share/ hostname of the storage device root of the storage directory + path to VOB storage = NAS-DEVICE:/vol/abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz12345678910/reallylong share/myvob.vbs 2. Run a protectvob command on the same storage VOB, such as 'cleartool protectvob -chown vobadm ?path to vob storage?' Workaround: Change the share such that the path to the root of the share is less than 64 characters. Alternatively, you can mount the storage onto a shorter local path such as '/vobstore/myvob.vbs' for example.
