Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 10 for z/OS and all DB2 11 for z/OS  *
    *                 users running z/OS V2R2.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Support z/OS V2R2 DFSMS new generation *
    * data group (GDG) format that allows up *
    *                      to 999 active GDSs.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The TEMPLATE utility control statement is modified to support
    EXTENDED GDGs, which are available in z/OS V2R2.

    When running on z/OS V2R2 the maximum operand value for the
    GDGLIMIT keyword is 999, instead of 255 as it is when running
    on previous releases of z/OS.

    The Utility Guide and Reference is modified under the
    TEMPLATE GDGLIMIT keyword to read:

      GDGLIMIT (integer)

        Specifies the number of entries that are to be created
        in a GDG base if a GDG DSN is specified and the base
        does not already exist. If a GDG base does not already
        exist and you do not want to define one, specify a
        GDGLIMIT of zero (0).

      | The default value is 99. The minimum value is 0.
      | The maximum value depends on the z/OS release on which
      | the subsystem is being executed. Prior to z/OS V2R2, the
      | maximum value is 255. Beginning with z/OS V2R2, the
      | maximum value is 999. To use values greater than 255,
      | "GDGEXTENDED(YES)" must be specified in
      | SYS1.PARMLIB(IGGCATxx).  Otherwise, values above 255 will
      | fail during allocation.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • Support GDG extended format in z/OS V2R2.
