PI29608: LIMIT AMOUNT OF DSNU340I MESSAGES BEING ISSUED SO IT DOES NOT USE ALL THE ADDRESS SPACE STORAGE

• DSNU340I filled up SYSPRINT using all the address space storage
  which hang the REBUILD INDEX job. A threshold will be put in
  place to limit the amount of DSNU340I messages.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Massive amounts of duplicate keys were  *
  *                      found during REBUILD INDEX and resulted *
  *                      in ABENDS878 RC10 from DSNURBXC due to  *
  *                      all storage being used up in the DBM1   *
  *                      address space with DSNU340I messages.   *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available          *

  REBUILD INDEX was run.  A massive amount of duplicate index keys
  were found and REBUILD built message MSGDSNU340I - ERROR LOADING
  INDEX, DUPLICATE KEY for each.  So many duplicates were found
  that all of the storage in the DBM1 address space was exhausted
  resulting in an ABEND878 RC10 from DSNURBXC.
  
  While Recovery Termination Manager (RTM) was ending the task,
  the lack of storage caused recursive errors and an ABEND40D
  RC10 to occurred resulting in the tasks becoming hung.

Problem conclusion

• REBUILD INDEX code has been changed to issue a maximum of 2000
  DSNU340I messages for duplicate keys.  The utility will issue
  message DSNU1140I - MESSAGE LIMIT OF 2000 HAS BEEN REACHED FOR
  THE DSNU340I MESSAGES. NO MORE WILL BE ISSUED FOR THIS UTILITY
  once this level has been reached.  REBUILD INDEX will continue
  processing the current index(es) and will continue to end with
  RC8 due to the duplicate keys being found.
