PI68728: ABEND878 RC10 USING EZBMCOPY

Obtain the fix for this APAR.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ABEND878 RC10 using EZBMCOPY under SMPTP job. Dump showed many
  32K bytes of storage in subpool 0 and key 8. This caused the
  abend878 Rc10 when system try to get another 32K bytes storage
  for EZBMCOPY. EZBMCOPY needs to issue FREECLOSE to free this
  storage after closing its DCB.

  When processing a mail file, EZBMCOPY issues an OPEN of the
  SYSOUT dataset.  QSAM allocates a 32K storage buffer.  After
  EZBMCOPY spins the mail file off to SMTP and CSSMTP, it issues a
  CLOSE.  The 32K storage buffer is never freed and becomes
  orphaned.  After processing many mail files, the accumulation of
  the orphaned 32K buffers causes EZBMCOPY to fail with
  ABEND878-10.
  

Problem conclusion

• EZBMCOPY has been amended to specify RMODE31=BUFF in the DCB
  used to open SYSOUT.  Therefore, during CLOSE processing QSAM
  will free the buffer storage that it allocated during OPEN
  processing.
