Error description

  • .
    Attempting to transfer a very large Load Library data set (PDS
    or PDS/E) using between z/OS systems using FTP functions GET or
    PUT with EBCDIC type and BLOCK or COMPRESS mode (or the
    equivalent MVSGET or MVSPUT functions). The potential exists
    that the size of the temporary data set used to hold the IEBCOPY
    unload version will far exceed the available DASD space. The
    following messages may be generated:

      IKJ56893I UTILITY DATA SET NOT ALLOCATED+
      IGD17273I ALLOCATION HAS FAILED FOR ALL VOLUMES SELECTED FOR

      IGD17290I THERE WERE i CANDIDATE STORAGE GROUPS OF WHICH THE
                FIRST j WERE ELIGIBLE FOR VOLUME SELECTION. THE
                CANDIDATE STORAGE GROUPS WERE: ....
      IGD17279I mm VOLUMES WERE REJECTED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT
                ONLINE
      IGD17279I nn VOLUMES WERE REJECTED BECAUSE THE UCB WAS NOT
                AVAILABLE
      IGD17279I ss VOLUMES WERE REJECTED BECAUSE OF A DADSM FAILURE
                (044E0097)

Local fix

  • .
    Run the IEBCOPY unload step outside of FTP. Then use a EBCDIC
    type and BLOCK or COMPRESS mode transfer on the unloaded data
    set, and perform the IEBCOPY load on the target system.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * An attempt to transfer a very large load library (PDS or *
    * PDS/E) between z/OS systems using FTP mvsput/mvsget may      *
    * fail.                                                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

    ****************************************************************
    The problem can be summarized as follows:
    When a FTP client tries to transfer a very large load library
    (PDS/PDSE) using FTP mvsput/mvsget, it may fail. FTP client will
    receive an error message -
    - 550 Allocation of temporary data set failed: (rc=4, err=970C,
    info=0000)
    This means the allocation of the temporary data set used to hold
    the IEBCOPY unload/load failed because the specified size is too
    large to fit on one DASD volume.

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The solution for this APAR is included in CS for zOS Version 2
    Release 3.

    This APAR is being closed FIN (Fixed If Next) with concurrence

    from the submitting customer. This means that a fix to this

    APAR is expected to be delivered from IBM in a release (if any)
