  • The OMVS shell does not exit with a
non-zero RC when a fork() failure is
                        encountered.

Problem summary

* USERS AFFECTED: z/OS users of sh command who run command     *
*                 (e.g. var=$(command)) and encounter fork     *
*                 failure.                                     *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The exit value is still zero when       *
*                      the message is returned : FSUM7726      *
*                      cannot fork: reason code = 0b250012:    *
*                      EDC5112I Resource temporarily           *
*                      unavailable.                            *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

When the fork failure occurs due to unavailable resource,
the zero exit value is still returned.

Problem conclusion

  • The codes was updated to return non-zero exit value when
fork faulure occurred with command substitution.
