Answer

Answers to the above questions that are frequently asked by customers.

1. This product has had three names:

  • Through version 9.1.2, the product name was DB2® Data Warehouse Edition (aka DWE) -- out of service now
  • In version 9.5, the product name was DB2 Warehouse (aka DB2W) -- out of service now
  • In version 9.5.1, the product name was changed to InfoSphere Warehouse (aka ISW) -- out of service now
  • In version 10.5, the product name was changed back to DB2 Warehouse as it becomes part of the DB2 family again (aka DB2W)

2. InfoSphere Warehouse (ISW) does not have fix packs. Instead, ISW has released refresh packs which are available for ISW v9.7.3, v9.7.7, v10.1.0.2, v10.5.0.4 and v10.5.0.5.

3. An interim or test fix resolves a particular defect or series of defects in a particular component (for example, SQL Warehousing Tool).

An interim fix is a certified fix that is generally available to all customers between regularly scheduled fix packs, refresh packs, or releases.

A test fix is a temporary fix that is supplied to specific customers for testing in response to a reported problem.

A fix pack is a cumulative collection of fixes that has been fully tested by IBM. In some cases, a fix pack may include new functionality. Depending on the product, a fix pack may require the existence of the base product before it can be applied. Fix packs increment the release fix, the 'F' in the V.R.M.F. sequence.

A refresh pack is a cumulative collection of fixes that also includes new functionality. A refresh pack has been fully tested by IBM. Depending on the product, a refresh pack may require the existence of the base product before it can be applied. Refresh packs increment the release modification, the 'M" in the V.R.M.F. sequence.

4.Once InfoSphere Warehouse is installed, DB2 fix packs can be applied. For instance, DB2 v9.7 fix pack 7 could be installed with InfoSphere Warehouse v9.7.3.
