Cannot paste content from cell in Lotus Spreadsheet Productivity Tool to Microsoft Excel

Technote (FAQ)

Question

While working in the Lotus® Spreadsheets productivity tool in Lotus Notes® 8 client, you copy a cell's contents, and attempt to paste the cell's contents into a spreadsheet in Microsoft® Excel. However, nothing happens. The content does not paste into MS Excel.

Cause

This issue occurs if the number of characters in the cell you copied to the clipboard in the Spreadsheet tool is 256 or more.

Answer

This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# MLUO6V5FJD; currently there are no plans to address this issue.

The only workaround is to shorten the number of characters in the Spreadsheet productivity tool to 255 characters or less.

Steps to reproduce issue:

1. Create a new spreadsheet and input a long string greater than 256 bytes in size to a cell of this document such as:

    aaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbccccccccccddddddddddeeeeeeeeeeffffffffffgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiijjjjjjjjjjaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbccccccccccddddddddddeeeeeeeeeeffffffffffgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiijjjjjjjjjjaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbccccccccccddddddddddeeeeeeeeee123456

2. Select the cell and select Edit > Copy or the CTRL+C keys to copy its contents to the clipboard (Note: Do not double-click to select the cell's contents).
3. Create a new document with MS Excel.
4. Select one cell, select Edit > Paste or the CTRL+ V keys. Notice nothing happens. The contents do not paste into the cell.
