Flash (Alert)
Abstract
RHEL 6.6 contains a kernel defect, which can cause Tivoli Storage Manager operations to hang on operating system semop() calls. This issue was introduced in kernel level 2.6.32-434.
Content
Tivoli Storage Manager operations might hang. This kernel defect can produce any of the following symptoms (other symptoms may also be possible):
1) Tivoli Storage Manager sessions or processes hang.
2) Tivoli Storage Manager server hangs during server initialization or halt.
3) Tivoli Storage Manager server hangs.
If a stack is generated from the application process that uses gstack, the stack will show the semop() function at the top.
For example:

sqlccipcrecv
sqlccrecv
sqljcReceive
sqljrReceive
The semaphore release defect is addressed in RHEL bugzilla 1165277. This problem was introduced in kernel level 2.6.32-434 and is fixed in kernel level 2.6.32-504.8.1.
RHEL 6.5 was released with kernel version 2.6.32-431 and is not affected.
RHEL 6.6 was released with kernel version 2.6.32-504 and is affected.
RHEL 7.0 is not affected.
Contact Red Hat support to obtain the fixed kernel to apply on RHEL 6.6.
