Charaka Kithulegoda

Chief Information Officer, ING

Charaka KithulegodaIn his role as Chief Information Officer at ING DIRECT Canada, Charaka is responsible for leading and managing the Bank's information technology operations, strategy and infrastructure as well as the architecture, design and delivery of all systems. In addition, Charaka is responsible for the Project Management Office and Testing & Quality Assurance functions.

Charaka has an extensive background in strategic technology planning, application development, infrastructure operations, and business process architecture. Prior to his current position, he served in many Information Technology roles including Vice President of Software Development, responsible for eBusiness Development. He has participated in the setup of greenfield banking operations in France, USA and the UK for ING DIRECT. He has also participated in technology architecture strategy initiatives in Spain and Germany for ING DIRECT.

Before joining ING DIRECT in March 1999, Charaka held software development positions in the financial, healthcare, software development and public sectors in Canada, Australia and Sri Lanka.

Melvin Greer

Senior Fellow, Lockheed Martin

Melvin GreerWith over 25 years of systems and software engineering experience, he is a recognized expert in Service Oriented Architecture and Cloud Computing. He functions as a principal investigator in advanced research studies. He significantly advances the body of knowledge in basic research and critical, highly advanced engineering and scientific disciplines. Mr. Greer is a Certified Enterprise Architect, the Vice-chair of the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC), Cloud Computing Working Group and an Advisory Council member of the Cloud Security Alliance.

In addition to his professional and investment roles, he is Fellow and Adjunct Faculty at the FEAC Institute. He is also a member of the International Monetary Fund / World Bank, Bretton Woods Committee. Mr. Greer is a frequent speaker at conferences and universities and is an accomplished author, "The Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture" and "Software as a Service Inflection Point, Using Cloud Computing to Achieve Business Agility" are his most recently published books.

Dr. Stephen G. Wells

President of the Desert Research Institute (DRI)

Don McMillanDr. Stephen G. Wells, President of the Desert Research Institute (DRI) of the University and Community College System of Nevada, oversees one of the world's largest multidisciplinary environmental research organizations with approximately 550 scientists, technologists, students, and other support staff. He has helped build DRI from a $23.8 million per year operation in 1998, the year before he became president, to greater than $50 million currently.

From state-of-the-art facilities in both Las Vegas and Reno, Dr. Wells leads three core divisions and four interdisciplinary science centers that serve the State of Nevada; several federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency; and communities around the world. He is a graduate faculty member in the Hydrologic Sciences Program and Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno. He serves on the boards of Research Parks, Ltd., Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, Nevada Development Authority, Gathering Genius, Inc., Sierra Nevada College, the Water Council, and the Advisory Board for the University of Arizona's Biosphere2.

Prior to joining DRI in July 1995 as Executive Director of the Quaternary Sciences Center, Dr. Wells was Professor of Geomorphology and Chair of the Graduate Program in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Wells began his academic career at the University of New Mexico in 1976 and ultimately served as Chair of the Department of Geology from 1989 to 1991. At both institutions, he built internationally recognized research and graduate programs, matriculating 34 Ph.D. and M.S. students. Dr. Wells has held visiting appointments with the U.S. Air Force Office of Research, U.S. Geological Survey, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and The University of Liverpool as well as established consulting relationships with numerous federal agencies and private companies including the U.S. Department of Justice, Sandia National Laboratories, and environmental and geotechnical firms in the western U.S.

Other professional activities during his career include the following: President, Geological Society of America; Fellow, Geological Society of America; member of the Board of Earth Sciences and Resources, National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences; Member-at-Large American Association for Advancement of Science Geology & Geography Division; Presidential Lecturer, University of New Mexico; Chair and Vice Chair, Quaternary and Geomorphology Division, Geological Society of America; panel member, Tectonics Program, Division of Earth Sciences, National Science Foundation (NSF); Principal Investigator, six NSF grants during the past decade; member (program reviewer), Committee of Visitors, Directorate for Geosciences, NSF; member, U.S. National Committee, International Union for Quaternary Research; Associate Editor and editorial board member, three international journals; Co-chair, U.S. Army Basic Research Review Panel (Atmospheric and Terrestrial Sciences Panel).

Dr. Wells has published approximately 60 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and edited six volumes. These works focus upon the geomorphology and Quaternary geology of arid and semiarid regions, geomorphic and hydrologic responses to Quaternary climate change, and tectonic and volcanic activity. Dr. Wells' research career has blended applied studies, such as development of geomorphic criteria for selecting stable uranium tailings disposal areas, and basic research, such as the Late Quaternary paleohydrology of the eastern Mojave River drainage of California. Dr. Wells is the recipient of three national awards for research excellence: Geological Society of America Kirk Bryan award for best scientific paper in geomorphology and Quaternary geology, Gladys Cole Award for best scientific proposal in arid land geomorphology, and Geological Society of America Farouk El-Baz award for desert research.

Dr. Wells has a B.S. (Geology) from Indiana University as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Cincinnati. In 2007, Dr. Wells has received distinguished alumni awards from the Department of Geology at Indiana University and from the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati.

Keith has implemented platforms that support multi-billion-dollar lines of business, created robust delivery organizations to reshape how IT services can be delivered, and has been a driver behind many innovative approaches to applying technology within both the Financial Services and Retail industries. Kim Skanson

Kim SkansonKim Skanson is Sr. Director of Enterprise Architecture at Target. Kim has worked across the IT spectrum during her career, from Vendor Management and Merger/Acquisition capabilities, to running Project Management and Delivery capabilities. She has stood up many new functions and organizations to tackle some of the more complex architecture problems faced by Fortune 500 companies. Most recently at Target, Kim worked to centralize the architecture capability. These efforts have led to greater efficiencies and many ground-breaking approaches being introduced at Target, including Target's MultiChannel technology needs of today and the future.

Dale C. Potter

Jim King

Mr. King joined BMI in 2010, having previously worked as Senior Vice President, Audience Platforms, and Global Chief Information Officer at United Business Media, PR Newswire. Linking business leadership, operations excellence, and technology innovation is a key part of Mr. King's background. Mr. King has held CIO, CTO, and COO positions with leading global information services, media and publishing companies, including McGraw-Hill, Brightpoint, and Reed Elsvier PLC. He also has held leadership roles with top IT companies, including Microsoft and AT&T Bell Labs.

In addition to his other significant contributions to streamlining BMI's operational platform, Mr. King has helped to earn BMI's placement in InformationWeek's list of the top 500 technology innovators for two consecutive years.

Mr. King holds several advanced degrees, including a Masters in Computer Science. His university experience includes Purdue University (LARS), Ball State University, and technology and business leadership training at MIT, among other institutions. In 2012 Mr. King completed a year-long executive leadership program at Vanderbilt University's Owen Management School.

Vijay Sankaran

Steve MillsVijay Sankaran is Director, Application Development at Ford Motor Company. His responsibilities include global application development, delivery of major programs and projects, innovation and advanced technology research, and enterprise application architecture initiatives.

Prior to this role, Vijay was Director, Infrastructure Operations where his responsibilities included operational support for servers, storage, networks, E-Mail, mainframe and Ford's largest data centers in North America. Previously, Vijay was Senior Manager of Ford's Enterprise Technology Group where his group focused on bringing pervasive computing to Ford Motor Company through solutions focused on seamless mobility, high fidelity collaboration, RFID and sensor technologies, in-vehicle connectivity, and pattern recognition and analytics.

Vijay has held many roles at Ford Motor Company including those in the areas of IT Security and Controls, In-Vehicle Software, and Vehicle Quality systems. Prior to joining Ford, Vijay was a consultant with both Ernst & Young LLP and Headstrong where he focused heavily on analytical systems. Vijay holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Outside of work, Vijay enjoys playing tennis and basketball, spending time with his family, and cheering for his Michigan Wolverines. Vijay lives with his wife, Anuja, and two boys, Chakor and Kabir in Ann Arbor.

Peter Aceto

As the senior leader of ING DIRECT Canada, Peter provides his relentless focus on delivering an outstanding customer experience and the cornerstones of success for ING DIRECT: maintaining a simple and efficient business model, working with management to develop and evolve a winning and adaptable strategy, managing risk, return and growth; and building an ever strengthening team to execute the company's vision.

Peter became the CEO in 2008 but prior to this Peter was a member of the ING DIRECT USA executive committee and responsible for sales, marketing and corporate communications. Prior to that, he held the posts of Chief Risk Officer, Chief of Staff and Chief Lending Officer. While in the U.S., Peter championed the company's philanthropic activities which focused on providing opportunities to underprivileged children across the country and around the world.
Peter achieved his Bachelor of Law in 1994 from the University of Western Ontario, where he also earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology. He lives in the Toronto area with his wife and three children.

Doug Schmidt

Doug SchmidtDoug joined Pearson in May 2011 in the newly created role of Chief Enterprise Architect.  Prior to this he worked at CBS Interactive where he served as Vice President of Technology and in this capacity oversaw all technology strategy and implementation for the TV, Movies, Games, and Food Division. In this role he was responsible for all global Software Engineering, Product Management, Systems Operations, Technical Production, Quality Assurance, and the Project Management Office.

Doug has also held executive technology positions at CNET Networks, CNET Channel, and Last.fm.  He has lived and worked in Moscow and Geneva running the software engineering and product teams for the world's largest technology products catalog called DataSource.  Doug also lived in London for a year during which time he released Visual Radio and Last.fm on XBOX360 to 20M global users.

Doug is passionate about all aspects of technology and has further extended his expertise as co-founder of a stealth Internet startup that is innovating new products and technologies in the mobile profile brokering and Near Field Communications spaces. He is also an advisor to a Palo Alto-based Internet start-up in the children's activity and gaming space.

Doug lives in Huntington, New York with his wife and two children. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Siena College in Loudonville, New York and has five international technology patents pending.

Previously, Beth was Vice President of Business Development for WebSphere where she led the division's worldwide initiatives around mergers, acquisitions, and business partner programs. During her tenure, IBM acquired ILOG as a key addition to its Business Process Management portfolio.

From 2004 to 2008, Beth was vice president, WebSphere Business Process Management and Industry Solutions where she led a worldwide software development team responsible for the strategy, architecture, delivery, and support of IBM's WebSphere Business Process Management offerings. During her career, Beth has held a variety of management and technical roles across IBM; prior assignments include director, DB2 for z/OS and IMS Product Manager.

Beth joined IBM in 1987 after graduating from North Carolina State University with a BS in Computer Science. In 2000, Beth received the Tribute to Women in Industry award from the YWCA of Santa Clara Valley.
