SW738: Introducing IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries

WebSphere software

Type: Web-based training; Level: Intermediate

About this course

This Web-based training course is based on IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Version 5.0. The course is self-directed and self-paced, and divided into modules so you can select and customize the course to your educational requirements.

In this course

Through a series of online lectures and demonstrations, this course will introduce you to the strategy, tools and features of the new Development Studio Client. This new product consolidates the key workstation development tools for traditional and e-business application development into the Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE), also known as IBM WebSphere Studio Workbench. This course will explore this comprehensive tool set, helping you leverage the iSeries system and take advantage of e-business opportunities faster.

The following topics will be covered:

The course consists of fourteen core modules plus an introduction and a wrap-up module. All modules have a lecture in the form of a reading assignment. You can read the pages that comprise a lecture from your Web browser or download a PDF document to print and read offline. Four modules also have demonstrations that you can view in your Web browser. You have a choice of listening to an audio narration or reading the narration script while watching a simulation of WebSphere Development Studio Client. Although built of prerecorded screen captures, the demonstrations give a realistic impression of a live demonstration and show operation of the product in detail.

Audience

This course is suitable for iSeries application programmers who are using the AS/400 Application Development ToolSet (ADTS) products (PDM, SEU and SDA) and are interested in improving the development of iSeries host-based applications and extending their functions into the e-business world.

Duration

How long it takes you to complete the course depends upon your reading speed, and how many lectures and demos you select. Each lecture typically takes thirty to forty-five minutes to read. The demonstrations with audio last fifteen to thirty minutes. Therefore, you can allow an average of one hour for each module. Typically, students complete four to fourteen modules for an expected total duration of four to fourteen hours.

One benefit of a self-paced course is that you can take it a portion at a time. Allocating some time each day for a week may be more a effective approach to completing this course than setting aside an entire day.
