About this course
This Web-based training course explores options for building enterprise-wide software systems that combine Java components and resources managed by non-Java systems. This course uses IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition Version 5, and teaches how to write Java programs that access such disparate systems as:
- IBM Customer Information Control System (CICS)
- Legacy applications that depend on 3270 terminal interfaces
- Non-relational databases such as IBM Information Management System (IMS)
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP
- Other Enterprise Information Systems (EISs) for which resource adapters are available.
This course updates SWD37: IBM WebSphere Studio: Connecting the Enterprise from WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition Version 4.1.1 to Version 5, and WebSphere Application Server V4.0.4 to V5.0.2.
In this course
This self-paced Web-delivered course is divided into nine modules each of which contains a lecture in the form of an independent reading. Most modules also contain a quiz for self assessment and a demonstration that simulates using WebSphere Studio or WebSphere Application Server. You can select only the modules that relate to the specific systems your application uses.
Audience
This course is designed for software developers who are professional Java programmers, application architects, and enterprise integration specialists. You should be familiar with the J2EE n-tier application architecture and the model-view-controller (MVC) design pattern. The course assumes you have built JavaBeans, servlets, JSP, and EJBs using the Application Developer tools. Familiarity with the Web services wizards is also helpful.
Objectives
After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Describe main elements of the Java Connector Architecture (JCA).
- Explain how JCA resource adapters provide the bridge between Java applications and non-Java systems.
- Design an enterprise application that leverages a service-oriented architecture to integrate disparate and distributed components and resources.
- Build services for JCA resource adapters using wizards of Application Developer and test those services using the WebSphere Test Environment.
- Use services to connect to CICS through ECI and EPI interfaces, IMS, SAP, and systems such as Host on Demand that use 3270 terminal services.
Prerequisites
Completing the following classroom courses is before taking this course:
System requirements
- This course requires Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 5 or greater.
Duration
This self-paced Web-delivered course is divided into nine modules each of which contains a lecture in the form of an independent reading. Most modules also contain a quiz for self assessment and a demonstration that simulates using WebSphere Studio or WebSphere Application Server. You can select only the modules that relate to the specific systems your application uses. Usually, each module takes between 45 and 75 minutes to complete.
One benefit of a self-paced course is that you can take it a portion at a time. Allocating some time each day for a week may be more a effective approach to completing this course than setting aside an entire day.
