Companies—and your career—are best served by individuals who can speak the languages of business, technology, and social-organizational change. Not only do you need to understand the technology, but you need to understand the importance of how to apply the technology and change.
The marketplace is also validating this new career trend. According to an eWeek article, a 2007 study from CompTIA, IT professionals believe that employers value interpersonal and communication skills along with technical skills the most, followed by strategic thinking and project management.
