Many factors today require companies to provide continuous service for their business applications. Some of these factors are regulatory requirements, competitive environments and maintaining customer satisfaction. High Availability is one of the components to providing continuous service by hiding, from the end-user's perspective, both planned and unplanned outages and eliminating application downtime.
IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for Multiplatforms (TSA for MP) provides a Highly Available cluster environment for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) infrastructures. TSA for MP offers mainframe-like high availability by using fast detection of outages and sophisticated knowledge about application components and their relationships. It provides quick and consistent recovery of failed resources and whole applications either in place or on another system in the cluster without operator intervention. Thus it relieves operators from manual monitoring, remembering application components and relationships, and therefore eliminates operator errors.
TSA for MP includes policy modules structured to manage TSM environments out-of-the-box, and takes appropriate actions to ensure a highly available storage subsystem. The relationships between the various components are defined in these policies and once defined TSA for MP will assume responsibility for managing the resources as configured. This reduces implementation time and the need for complex scripting required by other solutions. In addition it makes adding resources and relationships much easier and with a much higher degree of reliability.
