CBMR (Cristie Bare Machine Recovery) integrates with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to provide a Bare Machine Recovery (BMR) solution for Windows®, Linux, SUN Solaris and HP-UX.
CBMR for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
CBMR combined with Tivoli Storage Manager functionality allows customers to recover a Windows 2000, XP or 2003 operating system to a new disk drive, RAID array or a completely new machine using only a CD and a disaster recovery backup stored in the Tivoli Storage Manager server. This functionality is also supported for Linux, SUN Solaris and HP-UX operating systems.
Automated recovery
This comprehensive OS backup, restore and recovery tool backs up and automatically restores the operating system structures necessary to rebuild the operating system, as well as data files. It schedules regular operating system backups so a recovery brings back the latest information including: operating system, service packs, patches and hardware drivers. Support is also offered for dissimilar hardware recovery with the Windows product.
If a disk or RAID system fails or an irrecoverable corruption of the operating system occurs, simply boot from the CBMR installation CD. The previously saved configuration data can be supplied on either floppy disk, memory stick, network share or part of the system backup. This data is used to repartition and reformat the machine’s hard disks, RAID system or SAN volumes. The operating system and Tivoli Storage Manager client will be automatically recovered from the selected backup version held in the Tivoli Storage Manager server. A post recovery command then allows the recovery of data files from the Storage Manager backup to proceed automatically.
Bare Machine Recovery simplifies the backup process and minimizes your storage and network usage. The restoration process only takes a few minutes of human intervention per client, so recovery of systems can be performed with confidence and minimal time and effort.
Other Benefits with CBMR
If for some reason IBM Tivoli Storage Manager is not available or the bandwidth is too small to do large restores, then CBMR can still backup to a local network share such as Network Attached Storage - either CIFS or NFS. This network share can then be used to do a simple, fast and reliable restore locally from the centralized backup environment.
