IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager 6 Extended Edition is enhanced storage management software that expedites disaster recovery
It expands Tivoli Storage Manager 6 restore and archive abilities, providing you with a detailed disaster recovery plan, automated scripts and reporting functionality.
- New in version 6: built-in data deduplication for disk-based backup files. With this value add-feature, you can reduce capacity requirements or you can increase the number of recovery points that can be stored on disk. This can improve recovery times, as compared to retrieving that extra data from tape.
- Performs high-performance, scalable backups and restores that minimize network traffic and transfer data efficiently and on a schedule and provides functionality to track offsite storage
- Provides data protection and disaster recovery functionality for more than 500 different offline storage devices from more than a dozen vendors with no limitations on the number of drives or slots
- Offers network attached storage backups with Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP), a protocol that the Extended Edition storage management software uses to control communications between clients, servers and storage devices
- Enables multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers to share the same data tape library for improved data centralization and asset utilization
- Supports both full and differential file-system image backups and both full and file-level restores
- Tivoli Storage Manager has been a leader in data reduction technologies since its initial release, with progressive incremental data capture, compression, archive, HSM and expiration - all built-in. The addition of data deduplication in Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition extends that leadership, helping you to minimize infrastructure and administrative costs.
