Business benefits

Features, advantages and benefits
Features Advantages Benefits
Centralized workload control and management Manages a high number of heterogeneous application and system tasks, workload activities and services enterprise-wide from a single point of control Improves workload coordination, workload velocity and operations control. Helps to better align IT with business objectives to improve performance and reduce costs
Web based operations console Single point of control for cross enterprise workloads Improves ability to proactively monitor and manage workloads by exception, and to create production run time reports
Service driven delivery of workload schedules and plans Transforms batch processing from purely time and calendar driven schedules to dynamic event driven schedules Increased business and IT flexibility through dynamic, on demand execution of workloads according to desired service levels
Extensive workload planning facilities Create simple or complex workload schedules and plans to drive cross enterprise workloads according to business policies and service levels Centrally create, control and deploy workload schedules and plans throughout the enterprise, and to resolve cross application and system dependencies
Extensive workload modeling and forecasting facilities Models and forecasts time driven and event driven workload plans, prior to execution Provides impact analysis of changes to plans and workloads while reducing trial and error production changes
Service oriented architecture with J2EE/J2SE and Web Services APIs Integrate batch workloads with composite business processes, and provides a flexible workload automation deployment and run time environment Publish workload plans to web services registries for re-use throughout the enterprise, integrate batch and online processes, and consolidate workload automation across many legacy, custom or packaged business application
High scalability and fault tolerance Reliably scales to drive enterprise level heterogeneous production workloads Ensures your workload automation backbone scales as your business scales, and workloads are executed even during unplanned incidences with built-in redundancies and recovery processes
Authentication and encryption using SSL plus enhanced firewall support Protects workload schedules, plans and execution from unauthorized users, and allows you to manage workloads across firewalls Improves your ability to maintain the integrity of critical business and IT workloads
Integration with Tivoli Enterprise Portal and Tivoli Monitoring Tivoli Monitoring proactively monitors business applications and the IT infrastructure through a single, customizable portal, the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Improves proactive monitoring by combining cross enterprise workload exceptions with other cross enterprise systems management exceptions, and allows Tivoli Monitoring alerts to trigger workload schedules and plans
Integration with Tivoli Business Systems Manager Tivoli Business Systems Manager provides an enterprise wide view of service performance against key performance indicators Enhanced proactive monitoring of workload performance within a composite business service context, and against key performance indicators and goals
Integration with Tivoli Monitoring Tivoli Monitoring proactively monitors business applications and the IT infrastructure through a single, customizable portal Easily monitor and manage enterprise-wide workloads
Integration with Tivoli Storage Manager Tivoli Storage Manager protects enterprise wide data from incidences and outright failures Centrally control and manage complex storage backup schedules, and coordinate backup schedules with other IT and business application workload schedules and plans
Integration with Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms provides policy based high availability and disaster recovery automation Ensures high availability of service execution by providing automatic detection of incidences and failover of workload automation components or the entire workload automation network

IBM® Tivoli Workload Scheduler helps you establish an enterprise workload automation backbone by driving composite workloads according to business policies. It provides leading edge automation capabilities to control the processing of your enterprise's entire production workload, including batch and online services. Tivoli Workload Scheduler functions as an "automatic driver" for composite workloads to maximize the velocity of workloads, optimize IT resource usage, and resolve workload dependencies. It extends the scope for integrated application and systems management by driving workloads on multiple, heterogeneous platforms and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

According to business needs or organizational structure, distributed and z/OS components can be used in a mix of configurations for a completely distributed workload automation environment, a completely z/OS environment, or a two mixed “End-to-End” z/OS® and distributed environment. The Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications component extends Tivoli Workload Scheduler to automate workloads on ERP systems and non-native platforms.

Tivoli Workload Scheduler also provides high scalability, availability and performance to minimize idle time, improve throughput and ensure mission critical workloads are managed efficiently and reliably
