What's new?
IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.2.3 delivers the following features:
Dramatic improvements in cost of ownership – new features automate the maintenance and support of ITM-based agents (including ITM, ITCAM and OMEGAMON as well as custom agents) to reduce maintenance downtime and labor requirements. The running ITM infrastructure can have new enabled agents installed and agent maintenance applied without restart. This improvement in labor and monitoring uptime will provide recurring cost benefits.
The Startup Center allows rapid, graphically-directed installations (production or test) of up to 2000 agents. This new feature allows customers to perform installations with an integrated discovery capability and graphical deployment planning tool. Once the initial deployment is planned, an unattended installation of the ITM infrastructure and base OS agents can be completed – reduce installation time and time required to manage the actual installation.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring at a glance
These features aren't new to IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.2.3, but have been augmented in the following ways since the release of IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.2:
- ITM Capacity and Performance Analytics
- Provides simple, intuitive forecasting of resource trends
- Focuses monitoring attention on emerging problems
- Automates performance trending and reporting
- Highlights emerging problems before they become a threat to service levels
- Eliminates surprises caused by unforeseen resource shortages
- Increases speed of problem determination lifecycles
- Improved IT Service Availability and Incident Avoidance, Improved mean-time-to-recover (MTTR) by integrating physical and virtual infrastructures and applications running in those environments. Improved “incident avoidance” by inclusion of integrated capacity and performance analytics (IT Performance Analyzer) and Dynamic Thresholding
- Dynamic Thresholding: This capability provides a couple of key features that can be used to set up different thresholds based on the time of day or day of week. For example, thresholds can be set for peak shift and a different threshold for off shift. In addition, the system can learn what is “normal” for a given resource and set the threshold based on statistical analysis of the data. For example, set the threshold to two standard deviations above average
- Visual Baselining: Tied in with Adaptive Monitoring is Visual Baselining. By using this capability within the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, statistical analysis of the metric data can be shown in a graph overlaid with current and or historical data. You can subsequently set the monitored threshold based on the analysis done in the GUI interface
- Agent-based and Agentless monitoring options – IBM Tivoli Monitoring provides a number of agent options to provide customers deployment options that fit their requirements for monitoring
- Out-of-the-box situations measure performance and availability of resources against predefined thresholds, alerting appropriate personnel when a potential issue is discovered
- Correlation of situations increases the quality of alerts, allowing operators and administrators to focus on true issues rather than sorting through an abundance of unnecessary alerts
- Workflows can easily be created using a simple, intuitive graphical interface to define policies for automated or manual response to conditions
- Expert Advice provides a preloaded, customizable knowledge base, which enhances the ability of non-experts to resolve issues without having to involve the experts
- Simplified user administration with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) authentication and the ability to define user groups for setting permissions
- Enhanced monitoring of System p AIX environments, including mapping of virtual resources to physical resources
- Built in reports to report operating system agent and infrastructure performance history
- Continued enhancements of the Agent Builder that facilitates creation of custom monitors in a matter of minutes. Enhancements include the inclusion of a configurable log file agent that allows reuse of a standard log file agent
