The NetView Management Console (NMC) can be run in "demo" mode without an NMC Server or NetView for z/OS® attached to provide the graphical views. The Server data is simulated by saving this information on the NMC Console machine. The demo is based on NetView for z/OS V6R1.
Demo Requirements
Any hardware that supports one of the following operating systems with TCP/IP installed:
- Windows Vista Desktop
- Windows 7
- Windows Server 2003 Standard with R2
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with R2
- Windows Server 2003 Datacenter with R2
- Windows Server 2008 Standard with R2
- Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with R2
- Windows Server 2008 Datacenter with R2
In addition, 150 MB of additional fixed disk space is needed. Screen resolution of 1024 by 768, with 256 colors is recommended. Higher resolution and larger color palette may severely degrade performance. Maximum color palette is 16-bit high color (32-bit True Color is not supported).
The NetView Management Console Demonstration is available in a self-extracting compressed format. The file is:
- NMC Topology Console Windows version (EXE, 85.0MB)
The complete demonstration instructions are available here.
Running the nmc_console_windows-6.1.0.0.exe file will invoke the InstallShield setup wizard to start the installation process. Continue following these steps below. The install wizard will guide you through the process:
- You will see an initial "splash" window and an InstallShield Wizard dialog. Please wait for the first Welcome panel entitled "NetView Management Console Topology Console - InstallShield Wizard".
- Selecting the "Next" pushbutton will display the "Setup Type" dialog. The default selection will have the "Typical" checkbox already selected. The “Custom” checkbox needs to be selected for the demo. This will provide you with an option to install the "Productivity Kit" feature. The "Productivity Kit" includes the NMC Topology Console Demo.
- Selecting the "Next" button will take you to the "Choose Destination Location" dialog. You can change the drive and path or just keep the destination folder defaults as provided.
- If "Custom setup was previously choosen, then the "Select Features" dialog will be displayed. Feature choices on this panel are:
- NetView Management Console Topology Console
- Productivity Kit. Ensure that this is selected.
- Selecting the "Next" button will take you to the "Start Copying Files" summary dialog. This shows the setup type you have selected for the NMC Topology Console and the installation path.
- Selecting the "Next" button will cause the files to be installed. A "Setup Status" dialog will display a progress status bar during the copying of files to the installation location.
- When the installation of files are complete, a "InstallShield Wizard Complete" dialog will be displayed. You do not need to reboot your system. You do not need to update any PATH or CLASSPATH environment variables to define Java. The java runtime that is installed with this NMC Topology Console package is isolated from Windows OS and any other installed applications. It is used internally byNMC Topology Console and is uninstalled automatically when NMC Topology Console is uninstalled.
- Select the "Finish" pushbutton to complete the installation process.
Icons called "NMC Topology Console", "NMC Demo", and "NMC Productivity Kit" will be created on your Desktop.
Options
The demo files are generally very large, and require a high-speed connection to work properly. If you are concerned about your connection speed, we recommend that you download the files and run them locally.
The demos and their scripts require certain plug-ins, which are available for free download from the links below.
