OMEGAMON XE for Storage on z/OS V100 enhancements offer additional support for DASD devices and IBM TotalStorage products

To address these requirements, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON® XE for Storage on z/OS® adds new enhancements for V100 to support DASD devices and IBM TotalStorage® products.
The recent software updates provide new metrics, reduce related CPU overhead and include historical trending features to improve performance monitoring within your storage environment.
Added support for new generation storage devices
With the latest enhancements, the Tivoli OMEGAMON XE storage management solution continues to offer the industry's only built-in support for IBM TotalStorage, which delivers new economics and choice by breaking away from inflexible, proprietary architectures.
Updates for V100 add new metrics for the TotalStorage DS6000 and DS8000 units, including physical volume groups and back-end statistics such as disk drive performance and rank statistics. You can also now see physical read and write rates, physical read and write response times and total number of physical bytes read and written. The added support can help you see such issues as storage overloads more easily and provides a broader picture of storage and database devices to help you tune performance.
Other additions include 10 new workspaces designed to monitor IBM TotalStorage products - five that let you tackle performance issues in real-time, and five that show you historical information. As with previous versions of the software, you can intuitively drill down within those easily customized workspaces to pinpoint the root causes of poor performance.
Improved resource use
Recent software enhancements to Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Storage on z/OS can significantly reduce the CPU required to process volume level situations. The logical volume performance, space and cache threshold evaluation process has been optimized to reduce CPU consumption by up to 90%.
