Meet the writers and other experts who have contributed to CCR2.

Jack Brownwood
Jack Brownwood, a Candle senior solutions consultant in the western U.S. region, has been involved in software development since 1966. He has supported mainframe automation since 1985 and joined Candle in 1988, with the acquisition of AF/OPERATOR®. He has been a member of the Candle Automation Advisory Committee since its inception.

Wayne Bucek
Wayne Bucek is a 15-year veteran in Candle's Chicago regional office. In his current position as solutions architect, he assists customers with the design and implementation of Candle's PathWAI™ solutions. As part of Candle's AIM team, he specializes in, and is IBM-certified in, WebSphere MQ. Prior to joining Candle, he had 10 years' experience in systems programming, application programming and performance management.

Richard Burford
Richard Burford started working in the IT industry as a computer operator in 1979. The "traditional" career path (shift leader, operations analysis) was followed in 1983 by a move into systems programming. In 1993, he was offered the chance to work for Candle as a developer on OMEGAMON II® for CICS. Since then, he has helped design, develop and deliver CICS performance and monitoring solutions for Candle. These solutions include OMEGAMON® XE for CICS and OMEGAMON II for CICS.

Timothy Burris
Timothy Burris joined Candle in 1998. His first two years at the company were spent doing L2/L3 support, handling everything from configuration questions to source-code analysis of potential product issues. His responsibilities also came to include toleration testing, as well as general Q&A. He maintained the former IntelliWatch.com and now provides all IntelliWatch content for the Candle support site. Tim also writes the IntelliWatch Pinnacle User's Guides and Technotes.

Russel A. Cannon
Russel A. Cannon is based in IBM's El Segundo, CA regional office where, since 1986, he has held a wide range of positions, most recently the management of IBM's Level 2 support organization. As a Worldwide Support Planner for IBM's Software Group, he is responsible for a vast array of IBM zSeries products, including but not limited to IBM Tivoli Monitoring products, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON classic and OMEGAMON II, and IBM Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server products. To his current position, Russ brings prior experience as a senior software engineer in systems software management and architectural design.

David Caswell
David Caswell is the senior automation analyst at the Insurance Corp. of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He joined ICBC in 1982 as a computer operator and has spent the last 17 years designing and building automation solutions for Operations, Storage Administration, and Disaster Recovery Planning. He has been a member of the Candle Automation Advisory Committee since its inception.

Nic Catrambone
Nic Catrambone is an advisory software developer at Candle. He has been with the company since 1993. Two years into his tenure, he joined the Level 3 support team, where he specializes in Candle Technologies™/Basic Services and communications issues.

Cleo Clarke
Cleo Clarke is assistant vice president of Candle's Sales and Services organization. During her 11 years with Candle, she has held a wide range of management responsibilities focusing on strategic directions for the data center management side of Sales and Services. Prior to joining Candle, she managed a customer services organization. She has more than 20 years of experience in IT and is IT Executive Management Certified.

Steve Coleman
Steve Coleman is a senior systems engineer and consultant who has been with Candle since 1990. He specializes in educating customers on the use of Candle solutions to solve their technical and business problems. Steve has more than 30 years experience in Information Systems technologies.

Nish Deodhar
Nish Deodhar is the R&D manager responsible for the development and support of Candle's distributed systems monitoring products. He joined Candle in 1996 as a software engineer, working for more than five years developing several of Candle's distributed performance monitoring products. In addition to product development assignments, he has also worked as a product manager responsible for setting strategy and technical direction for the distributed products.

Ted Ehrlich
Ted Ehrlich is a Senior Software Engineer in IBM Tivoli R&D. After spending six years as an MVS systems programmer, he began working on the initial release of IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON for DB2 in 1987. He then spent four years enhancing the OMEGAMON base platform. In 1993, he was a lead developer on the Tivoli OMEGAMON II for SMS product. He is currently the architect and lead developer for the Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Storage product.

Omer Eubanks, DSc., CCP
Omer Eubanks, PhD., has spent 25 years supporting mainframe operating systems and subsystems. His focus was in VTAM and CICS before joining Candle Corp. in 1997. Currently a senior consultant specializing in mainframe monitoring and integration, and the primary Americas consultant for Candle's CL/SUPERSESSION® since 2001, he has implemented several large conversions for customers.

Steve Fafard
Steve Fafard is a Development Director at Candle Corporation. Since joining the company in November of 1988, he has held numerous development management positions across many mainframe projects, DB2 being the most recent. In addition to software product development, he ran the system test organization, worked in the business planning office, as well as served several years as Candle's globalization manager preparing Candle software products for the global market. Steve was interviewed in the April 2003 issue of CCR2.

Dawn Fiemeyer
Dawn Fiemeyer is a Senior Technical Staff Member at Candle Corporation. As a Candle technical consultant for OS/390 and z/OS products, she provides assistance to Candle's customers on topics related to mainframe automation and monitoring tools for System/390, zSeries, MVS, OS/390, and z/OS. She has provided consulting and mentoring services to assist customers in their automation implementations and support, and also provided installation activities for customers new to the monitoring tools. Dawn has been at Candle since 1998.

Peter Fowler
Peter Fowler has been working on OMEGAMON and EPILOG product development for 17 years. During that period he has acted as either lead developer or project leader. He has also been a member of the architecture committee for many years and a designer for many of the products and facilities delivered in the product suites. Peter has over 35 years experience in computer technology spanning a diverse set of systems ranging from micro processors to the largest mainframe systems.

Tom Furukawa
Tom Furukawa is the worldwide market manager for IBM Tivoli zSeries systems management solutions. He is responsible for a wide range of market management responsibilities and has been instrumental as a thought leader on end-to-end zSeries infrastructure management. He joined IBM with more than 15 years' combined experience in systems management and software development. Prior to joining IBM, he has held several positions in the marketing and software development teams for a leading software tools company, a document imaging/workflow company, major defense contractor, and a leading systems integrator.

Duane L. Gerken
Duane Gerken is a Consulting Software Developer at Candle Corporation. Since joining the company in October of 1985, he has been principally involved in the architecture and internal design of OMEGAMON for CICS. His first article for CCR2 -- Orchestration of Reporting Techniques and Linking Services -- appeared in the June 2003 issue.

Larry Green
Larry Green, a senior software engineer, joined IBM in 1984. He has spent 20 years in various areas of network and systems management, and is currently architect and chief designer for NetView for z/OS, a role he has held for several recent releases.

Chris Gundel
Chris Gundel is assistant vice president of Candle's Educational Services and eServices. During the course of his 4 1/2 years with Candle, he has managed customer training, internal technical training, sales training and, most recently, eServices. Prior to joining Candle, he managed educational services for a Fortune 500 hardware manufacturer. He has more than 25 years' experience in the IT industry and technical training.

Paul Kenney
Paul Kenney is an advisory software engineer who has been working in R&D at Candle for more than 10 years. He has worked on several Candle products, all related to relational databases, with the main emphasis being DB2 on S/390. These products include OMEGAMON II® for DB2, DB/SMU, DB/EXPLAIN, DB/WORKBENCH, DB/QUICKCOMPARE, and DB/QUICKCHANGE. Paul was also part of the team that developed the CandleNet Command Center® OMEGAMON Monitoring Agent® for Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server. He has 18 years' experience with relational databases and 14 years' experience with DB2, and is an IBM Certified Solutions Expert -- DB2 UDB Database Administration for S/390 and z/OS.

Justin Kim
Justin Kim is the pricing manager for Candle overseeing the company's worldwide pricing strategy. He analyzes the impact of new pricing or licensing models and has also provided training on price negotiations. Justin has been with Candle since 2000 and is currently chair of the corporate pricing committee.

Paul F. Klein
Before joining IBM, Paul Klein was an assistant vice president of Candle's Advanced Application Design group. Paul began work with Candle Corporation over 20 years ago as a designer of OMEGAMON® for MVS specifically targeting the End-to-End Response Time market. His work in response time theory has resulted in ten U.S. Patents and four Candle products. Paul was past chair of the ARM Working Group and a member of the OMG board of directors. Currently Paul is a Distinguished Engineer in IBM Tivoli and oversees the ITCAM response time solution products.

Laura Knapp
Laura Knapp has spent thirty years in the networking business, working for Texas Instruments worldwide network and as a corporate networking spokesperson for IBM. Her background includes development, troubleshooting, product management and customer support. Her experience allows her to cover all aspects of networking and to bring a pragmatic view to complex technologies.

Michelle Langeveld
Michelle Langeveld is Candle's program manager for eServices, responsible for driving improvements to our e-services offerings that will allow our customers to take full advantage of electronic self-service capabilities and interactions. Langeveld joined Candle in 1990, and has held management and executive roles across Customer Service, Release Management, Business Development and R&D for various Candle product lines. She has been in the IT and software industry for 19 years, with experience working for in-house IT departments and vendors.

Tim Land
Tim Land, a consulting software developer, joined Candle in 1992 as a primary designer and implementer for the Candle Management Workstation® project. He is the original architect and lead designer of the CandleNet Portal®, the user interface used by all of Candle's OMEGAMON® XE products. He is cited as the primary inventor of the CandleNet Portal architecture, which was recently awarded a U.S. patent. He currently serves as technical lead for the CandleNet Portal component team.

Charles LaSalle
Charles LaSalle has been assistant director of Internal Systems Development, Administrative Computing Services (ACS), at Boston University for eight years. LaSalle manages the development and maintenance of automation services for all ACS mainframe and distributed systems, as well as technology integration support services. Previously, he spent 24 years at a major Boston utility company as director of Systems and Programming, and director of Computer Services. His responsibilities as director of Computer Services included technical services, desktop support, computer operations and telecommunications.

Pete Marshall
Pete Marshall is an assistant vice president for Candle, focused on new business and technical developments. In more than 15 years at Candle, he has had a wide range of responsibilities across various management and business areas in Europe and the United States, and continues to be focused on technical developments and trends. A frequent writer and speaker on a variety of technical and IT management issues, he specializes in systems management architectures and alignment of IT management with business needs, and is a long-time advocate of Linux.

Richard Macdonald
Richard Macdonald, a senior systems engineer in Candle's IntelliWatch division, has been with the company since 1997. He is the technical lead for Candle's Lotus Notes monitoring and reporting products. Before joining Candle, Richard worked as a Notes consultant specializing in deployment and maintenance. Richard has been involved with Notes since Version 3, with experience on UNIX, Windows, and AS/400. Prior to Notes, Richard was involved in various other IT-related activities, including VAX, DOS, HP 4000, McAuto systems, PDP11, COBOL programming, MRP11, Mapics and Copics.

Chris Miksanek
Chris Miksanek, an advisory software developer, joined Candle R&D in 1990, working on CL/SUPERSESSION®. He has since worked in R&D and Level 3 support for many products, including OMEGAVIEW® for 3270 and OMEGAMON® XE for Mainframe Networks. He has also worked on various National Language Support (NLS) teams to coordinate the translation of Candle products and has presented at several Candle user conferences.

Thang N. Nguyen, Ph.D.
Dr. Nguyen is an assistant professor at Cal State Long Beach, where he teaches information systems courses at the College of Business Administration. Prior to his teaching position, he was a senior software developer and instructor at Candle for 10 years. Before Candle, he served as senior marketing support representative and systems engineer at IBM Corporation, Washington Systems Center until his early retirement in 1992. His papers have appeared in IBM Journal of Research and Development, and in many industry proceedings.

Douglas Roach
Douglas Roach has more than 20 years' experience in the data processing industry, primarily in application development, storage administration, systems programming and performance. He joined Candle Corp. in 1997 and is currently a senior consultant specializing in mainframe monitoring, integration and automation.

H. Dennis Sample
H. Dennis Sample has worked in the IT industry since 1975. Prior to joining IBM as product manager for Systems Automation and Automated Facility products, he held positions that included: data center management at American Express, support and development roles for AutoMate/MVS products at Duquesne Systems, technical marketing director for operations productivity tools such as AutoMate/MVS and Multi-image Manager at Legent Corporation, sales vice president at Computer Associates, and regional sales manager positions for both Mercury Interactive and Serena Software Corporation.

Stephen L. Samson
Steve Samson is a Senior Technical Staff Member at Candle. As Candle's principal technical consultant for OS/390 and z/OS performance management, he provides assistance to Candle's customers, employees, and prospects on topics related to System/390, zSeries, MVS, OS/390, and z/OS, and performance management in general. He has provided consulting services to assist customers in their transition to Workload Manager goal mode. He also is part of the team responsible for the Systems Management product plan. Steve has been at Candle since 1983.

Eric Seftel
Eric Seftel joined Candle as a senior consultant in 1996 and is currently a consulting manager, responsible for the delivery of professional services projects to Candle customers throughout North America. Prior to joining Candle, he was involved in and responsible for the development of several widely used commercial software packages at other ISVs. He holds a Foundation Certificate in IT software management from the IT Service Management Forum.

Robyn Stillwell
Robyn Stillwell is a senior software developer at IBM. She has been supporting and developing performance and monitoring solutions for IMS and DB2 for almost five years. Robyn has over 25 years experience working at software development companies on various client/server and mainframe products and was the lead developer for a 4GL product that generated IMS and CICS transactions.

Clarence Waldrop
Clarence Waldrop is a systems engineer manager at Candle, focused on Business and Partner Development for North America. Since 1995, he has held a wide range of responsibilities across various technical and managerial areas in the United States. Clarence specializes in systems management, application integration, and the alignment of IT management with business needs.

Simon Webb
Simon Webb is a consulting manager in Candle's Application Infrastructure Management (AIM) Sales and Services organization. He leads the group that develops and supports products for IBM WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker on the HP NonStop server platform. His background spans more than 20 years in software development of mission-critical products and systems on a wide variety of platforms and architectures.

Romney White
Romney White has worked with VM since the release of VM/370 in 1972. In Canada, he created the University of Waterloo VM software distribution library and founded a popular VM workshop. From 1981 to 1997, Romney founded four VM-based software companies before moving on to his current position with the IBM VM development organization in Endicott, NY. When Linux for S/390 first emerged within IBM, Romney and some VM colleagues were instrumental in bringing to the fore the potential contribution of VM to a Linux environment.

Stephan Woehl
Stephan Woehl joined Candle Germany in 1997 as a systems engineer, and has since worked as a corporate systems engineer, and as an instructor in Los Angeles. In his current role as senior education consultant, he specializes in education for the OMEGAMON products, including certifications and internal training programs. He has participated in several conferences and shows to demonstrate how OMEGAMON DE can help meet IT management, as well as business, needs.

Ed Woods
Ed Woods has over 20 years experience in the data processing industry, primarily in the areas of DB2, IMS, and MVS systems programming. He has been a systems engineer with Candle for more than 11 years, supporting the Candle DB2, IMS, and e-Business product lines. Ed has presented on DB2 technical and performance topics at IDUG North America (Year 2000's Best Overall Speaker), IDUG Europe, Guide, Share, Computer Measurement Group, and various regional DB2 User Groups. He has also presented at Candle Performance Road Shows, and has published articles in CCR2, Candle Computer Report and IDUG Solutions Journal.

Don Zeunert
Don Zeunert has been working with OMEGAMON for more than 15 years. In his current position as Senior Software Engineer for Tivoli's Performance Labs, he assists customers with tuning MVS, UNIX System Services, CICS, SMS and IMS. Prior to joining IBM, he had more than 12 years' experience in systems programming, performance management, database design and application programming. He is a frequent speaker at SHARE, as well as local CMG and Network and Systems Professionals Association (NASPA) meetings.
