Course description
The IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center (TPC) is an open storage infrastructure management solution designed to help reduce the effort of managing complex storage infrastructures, to help improve storage capacity utilization, and to help improve administrative efficiency. It is designed to enable an agile storage infrastructure that can respond to on demand storage needs.
Discuss installation, configuration, and the administration of the TPC suite. Students are grouped in teams to perform hands-on labs to install, configure, and administer the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center suite with a focus on the related hardware including the SAN Volume Controller. Student teams prepare for installation in their own environment and perform hands-on labs to experience some features of the suite.
This course includes the following components of the suite:
- TPC for Disk (formerly known as Multiple Device Manager)
- TPC for Data (formerly known as Tivoli Storage Resource Manager)
- TPC for Fabric (formerly known as Tivoli SAN Manager)
Note: this course has replaced IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center Workshop (SN855) (4.5 days)
If you are interested in administering the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center in your storage solution including generation and interpretation of the reports, you may be interested in attending IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center 3.1 (TS100) (5 days).
Objectives
- Understand how to plan and implement the TPC suite to administer, manage and maintain a comprehensive storage environment
- Install and configure the primary components of the TPC suite in an IBM TotalStorage environment
- Utilize the TPC for Disk to administer storage subsystems and monitor performance.
- Implement policies, create reports, and monitor file usage by installing and implementing the TPCfor Data
- Use the TPC for Fabric to view Storage Area Network (SAN) topologies, manage SAN switches and monitor storage subsystems
- Learn product architecture to perform problem determination on the TPC components
