IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) provides management and automation of zSeries resources such as Applications through monitoring and event driven automation. Customers can utilize automation policy to recover failed resources, decide how often to recover the failed resources, define service windows when it is acceptable for resources to be down, and so on.

This session will cover enhancements made to SA z/OS to integrate with the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP). Topics to be discussed in part 1 will be an overview of the TEP support, configurations supported, and an introduction to the workspaces provided. A sample installation using a z/OS TEMS will be presented along with hints and tips from the author. Demonstrations will be used in lieu of lab exercises.

After completing this session, students will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Perform the required steps to install and customize the SA z/OS TEP code
  • Use the TEP workspaces provided by SA z/OS instead of 3270 based panels

Who will benefit from this course

This session is intended for use by both an SA z/OS operator and system administrator.

The system administrator is responsible for creating and updating the policy definitions.

The operator will utilize the SA z/OS TEP operator interface to manage systems and system resources.

Required skills/knowledge

  • The student should have the following skills:

  • Basic Tivoli NetView for z/OS operation.
  • Basic System Automation for z/OS concepts and operations will be beneficial.
  • Basic ISPF use will be beneficial.
  • The operational needs of a z/OS system.
