Course description
This is an end user course designed to introduce the capabilities, limitations, installation, configuration, and integration methodologies of Netcool/RAD 3.0 Fundamentals. The course focuses on the deployment, configuration, and everyday maintenance of Netcool/RAD from the perspective of the administrator. At the outset of the training, students install the RAD application on a classroom server, and then cover the standard configuration objects.
Over a trainining period of three days, practical exercises are undertaken to experience installing and configuring the RAD application on dedicated UNIX workstations. The exercises are structured to teach the RAD fundamentals, such as creating templates and modeling various components in a network and systems environment. Additional labs include how to set up SLA monitoring in the service model.
Any student interested in configuring custom canvases (models) and dashboard components should subsequently attend the RAD Advanced Dashboards class.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, each student will be able to deploy the Netcool/RAD 3.0 product. Basic troubleshooting and faultfinding techniques will prepare students to develop models for their service architecture. Each student will understand how to:
- Build RAD service models
- Use and configure RAD service views
- Use advanced features of service models to expand model coverage
- Configure maintenance windows
- Configure data fetchers
- Build service models using auto population and data fetchers
- Develop custom views for users
- Administer users and groups in RAD and the Security Manager framework
- Use and program the RAD API
- Support the RAD environment as an administrator

Who will benefit from this course
This course is designed for anyone who will be implementing or administrating the Netcool/RAD 3.0 product. This includes network and systems management developers and engineers who are required to install, configure, maintain, or support a Netcool/RAD system.
This course is an entry level product course, no knowledge of earlier versions of the software is assumed. However, any users of the Netcool/RAD product used for monitoring who are not interested in creating models nor administrative functions are not advised to take this course.
Required skills/knowledge
Students must have a system administrator level understanding of Solaris 9 with an ability to edit text files.
Students must have administrative level skills with OMNIbus version 7 or later.
It is recommended that students take the Webtop 2.0 Administration and Development course since aspects and installation of the Security Manager and Netcool GUI Foundation products are learned there.
