The SOA Journey at SHARE |

The Mainstream -- February 2008 -- Issue 28
Implementing a successful SOA is not a silver bullet. It is more like a journey than a process. SOA adoption requires not only planning but organizational commitment to remain focused and an understanding that the benefits and ROI are often long-term.
SOA is not only about technology, it is about solving business problems. It helps meet real business needs and successfully adapts IT infrastructures to respond to business change. Organizations discover new ways in driving business process improvement, with the end result being a new generation of highly complex and powerful solutions.
Realizing the complexities introduced when implementing an SOA, SHARE has chosen to focus both their February and August 2008 conferences on this topic. Each conference will offer specific content, delivered by users, to help enterprise architects and other attendees define and plan for SOA adoption, and how their organizations can approach the re-engineering processes required for the journey. Additionally, SHARE will help attendees understand how to manage legacy applications and new business solutions at every stage of the SOA continuum, and to identify the skills that are needed to execute and maintain the transformation. SHARE’s overall intent is to help their attendees predict the value the investment in SOA will return for their organization.
The SOA Journey was selected as one of SHARE’s 2008 conference themes by SHARE’s Business Issues Council, an esteemed panel of industry leaders who work with SHARE each year to select key industry topics based on considerations such as changes in marketplace, the talent pool needed to respond to market demands, client expectations, IT Governance practices and leading technology trends. At the next SHARE conference in Orlando, February 24-29, SHARE will feature over 50 sessions focusing on the SOA Journey.
SHARE is an independent, volunteer-run association providing IBM customers with user-focused education, professional networking, and a forum to influence the information technology industry. To learn more about the SOA Journey at SHARE, visit www.orlando.share.org.
