With annual growth rates of 90 to 100 percent, The Online Backup Company needed a network and server platform to grow with their new software. Six IBM System Networking RackSwitch G8264 switches were installed across three locations and connected using IBM BladeCenter Virtual Fabric.

Faced with slow and unreliable tape backups, STIAL deployed an IBM System Storage ProtecTIER TS7650 virtual tape library with data deduplication technology. The solution cuts backup time from more than 24 hours to just 13 hours and speeds recovery by a factor of more than three.
Durham University’s Institute of Computational Cosmology used IBM iDataPlex technologies to build COSMA5, a new high-performance computing (HPC) cluster for data-intensive research projects in cosmology and astronomy. COSMA5 also plays a crucial role in the UK’s DiRAC-2 HPC initiative.
