Proginov is a leading provider of ERP software to small and mid-market firms in France, focused on the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model. In its dual role as both a software publisher and a hosting provider, Proginov can provide end-to-end, single-source solutions.

As more enterprises choose the SaaS model, Proginov’s business is going from strength to strength. To prepare for further growth and maintain high service levels, the company needed to expand its hosting infrastructure. Philippe Plantive, General Manager of Proginov, comments, “With more than 600 customer environments to manage, availability is paramount – for example, we run transactional systems for large retailers, and they would be unable to sell goods if we allowed those systems to fail.”

A pure choice
Proginov aimed to select new servers that would fit the physical and thermal constraints of its data centers, integrate quickly and easily with its existing infrastructure, and offer longevity in terms of vendor support.

“Our satisfaction with IBM BladeCenter has always been extremely high, and we saw the new IBM Flex System family as the natural extension of that approach,” says Philippe Plantive. “The concept of an integrated system, including servers, storage, networking and management software, really appealed to us. This was a key reason we chose Flex System ahead of a competing offer.”

Integrated and easy to manage
Adding to its current installation of 16 BladeCenter chassis, Proginov has deployed two IBM Flex System Enterprise chassis with a total of 26 IBM Flex System x240 compute nodes and IBM Storwize V7000 disk arrays, all managed using a single management solution: IBM Flex System Manager. IBM Global Financing facilitated the investment by enabling Proginov to spread payments over 12 months at zero-percent interest. This enabled it to align payments with the ramp-up of revenues generated by its SaaS offerings.

“With Flex System, IBM has enabled us to benefit from its know-how around systems integration, so we don’t have to concern ourselves with assembling and testing the platform,” says Philippe Plantive. “The technical coherence of the solution translates into superb reliability, which is exactly what we need to offer a completely stable business platform to our customers.”

He adds, “IBM Flex System Manager really convinced us of the value of Flex System, giving us a single pane of glass to manage everything. It’s a very powerful and comprehensive monitoring and management tool that helps ensure end-to-end system availability.”

With 18 chassis and more than 220 blade servers in its infrastructure, ease of management is extremely important to Proginov; Flex System Manager maximizes the productivity of the IT team.

As part of its commitment to maintaining stability for its customers, Proginov adopts new technology through a process of steady evolution, without losing continuity with the past. “IBM ensures coherence and continuity across its offerings, and maintains extremely high quality – for us, that is why they are a world-leading company,” says Philippe Plantive. “We’re confident in investing in Flex System because we’ve seen that IBM keeps its promises about supporting and developing new platforms.”

Business-focused hosting
As a provider of hosted ERP services, Proginov is typically responsible for the core systems run by its customers. This makes it vital to have a reliable, stable infrastructure that offers excellent performance.

“We have great faith in the resilience and quality of the IBM Flex System solution,” says Philippe Plantive. “The production stability that the IBM hardware gives us means that we spend less of our time on routine maintenance and we dramatically reduce the risk of downtime for our customers.”

He concludes, “For Proginov, the critical factor is quality of service. We are a highly responsive business, and our use of high-quality integrated solutions from IBM enables us to keep our focus on serving our customers. The technical coherence of Flex System – conceived from the ground up as a fully integrated offering – means that we now have an even more solid basis on which to meet our customers’ business needs.”
