Delivering a safe and fun experience for park guests requires meticulous oversight of thousands of park assets—from rides to building equipment. However, with each park using a different system to track and manage maintenance and inventory, it was difficult for Six Flags management to identify best practices across all parks. With IBM Maximo Asset Management software, the company can analyze its business in ways that it couldn’t before. The company’s return on investment is expected to be substantial as this new insight helps management better utilize it assets, inventory and personnel.
With each park using a different system to track and manage maintenance and inventory, it was difficult for management to identify best practices across all parks to deliver a safe and fun experience.
Six Flags worked with IBM Business Partner, NobleTek to help them with selecting the right EAM product for their needs. NobleTek selected IBM Maximo® Asset Management software.
The company’s return on investment (ROI) is expected to be substantial in the areas of both labor and procurement.
For more than 50 years, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has provided thrilling, world-class entertainment to millions. With 19 theme parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada, Six Flags offers innovative rides and water attractions, record-shattering roller coasters, and special concerts and shows.
Delivering a safe and fun experience for park guests requires meticulous oversight of thousands of park assets—from rides to building equipment. However, with each park using a different system to track and manage maintenance and inventory, it was difficult for management to identify best practices across all parks.
Walter Bowser, corporate vice president of Maintenance and Construction for Six Flags, and Jay Thomas, corporate director of Project Management for Six Flags, contacted IBM Business Partner, NobleTek, for help selecting an enterprise asset management (EAM) system. After viewing product demos and speaking with colleagues across a variety of industries, they selected IBM Maximo® Asset Management software.
“One of the things we realized was just how broad Maximo is,” says Bowser. “The out-of-the-box features meant that we didn’t have to spend a lot of time customizing the solution.”
With IBM Maximo Asset Management software, Six Flags is able to identify and implement best practices across all parks in the areas of labor, maintenance and park operations. “Most of our maintenance staff have 25, 30, 40 years of experience,” says Bowser. “This approach allows us to analyze our business in ways we couldn’t before and identify and share the best practices from each park.”
IBM Maximo Professional Services and NobleTek provided on-site immersion training, planning workshops, and deployment services to support the implementation. “Creating a dedicated Six Flags implementation team with NobleTek and IBM as partners has helped support our success,” says Thomas. “We’ve implemented the solution at five parks to date, and as the implementation team completes each deployment, they move to the next property. We have one implementation team to make sure that all the deployments across our parks are consistent.”
The company’s return on investment (ROI) is expected to be substantial. “IBM Maximo software is changing the way we view our business,” says Bowser. “It gives us the ability to conduct cross-park comparisons so we can understand how we can best utilize our assets, inventory and personnel. In estimating our ROI, we identified savings in both labor and procurement.”
The solution also helps support the company’s safety and compliance efforts. “Our number one priority is safety,” adds Bowser. “IBM Maximo software will help us better retain and more quickly access safety information for regulatory bodies. It also enables us to include any safety information and checklists directly in job plans to help us confirm adherence to our corporate values.”
