"With Worklight, it’s actually incredibly simple to build and package multiple applications to an iPhone, an Android or other device without having to worry about building it specifically for those devices." - Harry Ho, mobile applications engineer, OpenLogix Corp.
Founded in 2006, OpenLogix Corp. is an IBM Premier Business Partner offering end to end service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions, including business integration, enterprise portals, commerce, business process management and business intelligence. Headquartered in Michigan, the company has operations in the United States, the United Kingdom and India.
OpenLogix Corp. needed to find a solution that would provide robust security and connectivity features for enterprise mobile application development.
OpenLogix uses IBM® Worklight software to create an application once and reuse the code for multiple mobile platforms, such as Android and iOS.
Using the solution, OpenLogix completed development of a utility industry mobile application for multiple platforms in just one month.
To meet customers’ needs for mobile services, OpenLogix wanted to start building mobile applications specifically to address enterprises’ mobile requirements. “There’s a lot of consumer-side mobile application development out there, but this is something that’s still new to the enterprise level, and we noticed that it’s a market that needs to be tapped,” says Harry Ho, mobile applications engineer, OpenLogix.
The company decided to create two enterprise mobile applications: an employee finder application with cross-industry functionality and an application for utilities companies. OpenLogix began to look for a mobile development solution that would enable it to create and develop enterprise-level applications. The organization needed to find a solution that would provide the security and connectivity features critical to enterprise applications.
OpenLogix selected IBM Worklight software as its mobile application development platform. Using the application, OpenLogix can create an application once and reuse the code for multiple mobile platforms, such as Android and iOS. “With Worklight, it’s actually incredibly simple to build and package multiple applications to an iPhone, an Android or other device without having to worry about building it specifically for those devices,” says Ho. OpenLogix completed development of the Android and iPhone versions of the mobile utilities application, which is a robust, full-featured product, in just one month, approximately half the time that it would have required otherwise. “Developing the platforms separately would have taken much longer and required additional developers,” says Ho.
OpenLogix customers can purchase the employee finder and utilities applications as-is, or they can customize them using the Worklight platform. “We’ve really been trying to help our customers understand that Worklight is more than just a development tool; it’s an entire platform,” says Krista Valentine, sales account manager, OpenLogix. In fact, the company is also using the Worklight platform to create industry accelerators called JumpStart Mobile Apps for industries including energy and utilities, healthcare, insurance, banking and government citizen services.
• Allowed OpenLogix to develop, in just one month, a mobile application for utilities that supports multiple mobile platforms
• Enabled mobile application administrators to proactively push updates to users’ devices and remotely disable older versions
• Easily integrated with back-end systems, such as security systems, providing OpenLogix with an application management system
